Five potentially brilliant Bilic summer signings for West Ham

Newly-appointed West Ham United boss Slaven Bilic recently outlined his summer transfer plans at Upton Park after arriving in east London to replace former coach Sam Allardyce.

The new Hammers manager is keen on bolstering his inherited squad ahead of his maiden Premier League campaign (9/2 with Coral to be relegated), a season which will also see Europa League action take place, having been drawn against Andorra’s FC Lusitans in the first qualifying round.

“We will not rush just for the sake of buying,” stated Bilic. “We have to be very, very clever with that. We can’t afford to buy players just for the sake of buying.

“But we’re going to try and be active, but only if those players are better than the ones we already have.”

Here are five potential transfer coups for the Hammers this summer…

Dimitri Payet
Soccer - International Friendly - France v Belgium - Stade De France

Marseille and France international midfielder Payet would be a huge boost to Bilic’s central areas for next term, with the Hammers having reportedly made a £14m bid for the Ligue 1 playmaker, who made more assists than any other player in the French top tier last season.

West Ham have already signed Spain Under-21 midfielder Pedro Obiang, and the talented Marseille menace would be another big scoop, with former loanee Alex Song having returned to Barcelona upon his temporary spell at Upton Park expiring.

Mousa Dembele
Soccer - Barclays Premier League - Tottenham Hotspur v West Ham United - White Hart Lane

A top-flight midfielder with plenty of experience in the Premier League and at international level with Belgium, Tottenham’s Dembele is a potentially potent target for a hopeful Hammers side in the coming months.

Versatile in midfield, the £12m-rated 27-year-old can play as a number 10 and is gifted at anchoring the central area, attributes which could hugely benefit Bilic next term as he searches for a successful first season (25/1 to win Capital One Cup).

Steven N’Zonzi
Soccer - Barclays Premier League - West Ham United v Stoke City - Upton Park

With Stoke City having recently rejected a reported £3m bid from Europa League champions Sevilla for their towering midfield engine N’Zonzi, West Ham could potentially swoop for his impressive services.

The Frenchman joined the Potters for £3m in 2012 and has since developed into a dominant top tier midfielder, with his performances last term earning him the club’s player of the season as they recorded their highest ever Premier League finish under Mark Hughes.

Zdravko Kuzmanovic
Italy Soccer Italian Cup

This 27-year-old midfield menace has been capped at international level with Serbia over 50 times but is believed to be one of many Inter Milan stars set to be offloaded by Roberto Mancini this summer, but may possibly survive with just a loan stint elsewhere.

Kuzmanovic could provide a great deal of quality to the Hammers midfield, with a loan deal set to offered to the San Siro outfit, but Bilic faces stern competition from the likes of Schalke, Werder Bremen and Borussia Monchengladbach for his acquisition.

Carl Jenkinson
Czech Republic Euro U21 Soccer

After a successful season-long loan stint at Upton Park last term, astute full back Jenkinson has been tipped for a contract extension at the Emirates, before another potential temporary spell with West Ham.

The rapid right back is currently on international duty with the England Under-21s as they aim to lift the European Championship, and are 5/1 to win the coveted competition, with Jenkinson being tracked heavily by both Bilic and Sunderland, after making 36 astute appearances last season.
