Five replacements for Christian Benteke at Aston Villa

He has been the subject of considerable transfer speculation this summer, though striker Christian Benteke could be finally about to move, after Manchester United reportedly agreed to meet Aston Villa’s £32.5m release clause, with Louis van Gaal’s side, evens with Coral to be his next club.

Tim Sherwood’s side are 4/1 for a top 10 Premier League finish next term, though they may have to try and achieve this without their star man. However, they will be well-compensated for this inconvenience by receipt of a hefty fee.

Whether all of this will be reinvested back into the side remains to be seen, though Sherwood will definitely be afforded the task of replacing the Belgian. As a result, Coral review five possible options who the West Midlands outfit could sign.

Loic Remy
If Chelsea receive a firm offer, Remy will be on his way, though whether he will be convinced by Villa, remains to be seen. There is no doubting his quality and, although not a like-for-like replacement he would score goals.

Charlie Austin
Close your eyes and point a finger anywhere on a print-out of the Premier League table. You can guarantee, whichever club you land on have been linked with QPR’s sought-after striker at one point or another this year. Whether Villa would be convinced by Austin’s £15m valuation though is a separate issue.

Emmanuel Adebayor
On balance, this suggestion may not be too ridiculous. He was one of the players that Sherwood got the best out of when he was temporarily in charge of Spurs, and a reunion may well be on the cards. With his club reportedly wanting to sell, the only stumbling block could be over his wages.

Rickie Lambert
While the Liverpool veteran wouldn’t be a main replacement, he would definitely be useful for Villa and he still has goals in him. Likely to cost around £2m, this represents a smart signing and is a great person to have around the dressing room, especially considering that Villa have a typically young squad.

Demba Ba
Currently at Turkish outfit Besiktas, the former Chelsea and Newcastle striker could be tempted by a move back to the Premier League, should Villa express an interest. A proven goal-scorer, he is a nuisance for defenders and the club can afford his transfer fee and wages.
