Five forwards for Chelsea to consider in January
The Chelsea juggernaut rumbles on, as the Blues, still unbeaten and first in the Premier League by four points, remain odds-on favourites with Coral at 1/5 to win the English top flight.
However, with concerns over Diego Costa’s fitness and Loic Remy still injured, Chelsea only have veteran striker Didier Drogba to turn to if the worse comes to the worst. Therefore, we suggest five possible frontmen for Jose Mourinho to sign in January to add some cover in attack.
A move for this man from London neighbours West Ham, would no doubt be controversial though the Hammers new summer signing has been in impressive form of late, and would definitely provide adequate cover for Mourinho. Strong and athletic he can certainly lead the line, and he knows exactly where the goal is. Everything Mourinho wants from his centre forwards. If they are to move though, they may have to pay around the £20m mark.
No doubt a number of top clubs are looking at this Italian. Since his switch to Southampton in the summer, he has excelled, and he could certainly do the necessary for the Blues. The Saints, however are highly unlikely to sell, and the last thing they want is another mass exodus, halfway through the season.
Although 29 years of age, the Spaniard can still do the business, and is a presence leading the line. However, he has only scored one goal in all competitions so far this season, and with Carlos Tevez and Alvaro Morata in the squad, Juventus may consider selling, with any potential fee likely to be around £12m.
The Uruguayan has impressed since his move to Hull City in the summer, and the Tigers may struggle to keep hold of him if his fine form continues. He has three goals in all competitions so far this season, and is more in the build of Remy at Chelsea, though would offer Mourinho something different.
He might only be 20, though the Polish striker seems to be the heir apparent to Robert Lewandowski. Currently at Ajax, he has 11 goals in as many appearances so far this season, and he could become one of the best strikers in world football. Mourinho should consider him as top priority.
