Gamble on goals and Man City home form in Liverpool test

In each of the last four Premier League encounters between Manchester City (odds-on at 5/6 for victory at the Etihad) and Liverpool (10/3 for three points), both teams have scored. It’s no wonder Coral price this occurrence happening again at 1/2, then.

There is fantastic value, however on combining bets on a City win with them and the Reds managing to be on target. If punters stake a maximum of £20, enhanced odds of 3/1 are available on victory for Manuel Pellegrini’s men, but with the opposition scoring.

Backing this is a brilliant shout because of the strength of the Sky Blues’ home form last term. Only Chelsea came away from the Etihad with three points, while City ran out 2-1 winners over Liverpool in December. A repeat scoreline is a 15/2 chance.

With both these Premier League heavyweights netting in recent meetings, there’s been an average of four goals per game over the last two campaigns. It’s 6/4 that the match total is over 3.5, and this is another bet punters must consider. Two of those four fixtures have been drawn, so odds of 11/4 would be attractive were it not for the fortress that City call home.

Argentina international attacker Sergio Aguero came off the bench to seal a Sky Blues win at Newcastle United last time out. Odds of 4/1 say he will score last again. Aguero is shorter at even-money in the anytime market, with Pellegrini set to use him as an impact sub again.

Silky Spain midfielder David Silva, meanwhile, netted the opener at St James’ Park and scored in the last meeting between the Citizens and the Reds. It’s 15/8 on him netting anytime again. Bosnia striker Edin Dzeko signed a new four-year contract at the Etihad in the build-up to this one, and is 5/4 to repay the hosts by being on target here.

Summer signing and £32m man Eliaquim Mangala is still out, so there’ll be no home debut for the France centre half here. In fact, defence looks like City’s main weakness, with both left backs Gael Clichy and Aleksandar Kolarov possibly set to flank the rearguard for the third match running, as Pablo Zabaleta and Bacary Sagna lack match fitness.

Forgotten man Micah Richards must see the writing on the wall. Avoid clean sheet and win to nil markets for both City and Brendan Rodgers’ boys here, with Liverpool expected to make a change and give Spain left back Alberto Moreno his debut. Serbia winger Lazar Markovic may also make a bow for the visitors here, and is 5/1 to cap it with a goal.

Mario Balotelli’s proposed transfer to Anfield has not been completed at the time of writing, and even if it had then he could not feature in this fixture anyway. There is, however, a subplot involving a former City striker in Reds colours coming back to his old stomping ground.

Daniel Sturridge has really matured as a player under Rodgers and grabbed Liverpool’s winner over Southampton in their first league game. He is as long as 2/1 in the anytime market and, like Aguero, has netted in this fixture at the Etihad before.

Creative Brazilian force Philippe Coutinho scored home and away against City last term, so what better way to celebrate his international recall from returning Samba Boys boss Dunga than by scoring yet again? He is a 6/1 shot for a third in as many outings with this opposition, and that is sensational value.

Set piece nous has also resulted in goals in previous recent fixtures, so consider Martin Skrtel (12/1) and City skipper Vincent Kompany (8/1), who have netted three times and twice respectively when the clubs have been paired together. Your best bet is piling up to £20 on a home win with both sides scoring, though, so bet now.
