Gunners aiming to shoot down Swans and keep title chances alive
Arsenal have scored exactly twice in six out of the last nine matches against Swansea City in all competitions, and are odds-on at 8/13 to net two or more again at the Emirates. They have won their last three in all competitions against Swansea, which put them in good stead for victory again with odds of (8/15).
The Gunners host Welsh side Swansea in the Premier League in the hope of making up ground on leaders Chelsea – who they recently lost 6-0 to – as they cling on to their title chances. They are now seven points off the top, with a game in hand, and 40/1 outside chances to win the trophy.
Arsene Wenger will be incredibly pleased to hear that both Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Kieran Gibbs are available following the calamitous sending off decision by Andre Marriner to the latter at Stamford Bridge.
Visitors Swansea surprisingly hold a decent record against Arsenal in the league, having won four out of the nine played, but are big outsiders for victory at the Emirates with odds of 11/2. If you go by history, don’t put you money on a draw (10/3), as the spoils have never been shared in this fixture in the top-flight.
One player who can certainly make a difference for the Swans is Michu, who is in line to start his first match since mid-December. The versatile Spaniard has scored three times in his last five against the Gunners and has odds of 5/2 to net again anytime.
Swansea certainly need to get a result here as they are now in 15th place in the league and just four points ahead of Sunderland – who have two games in hand on them – in the relegation zone. They are on a run of no wins from their last eight in all competitions.
Garry Monk’s side are still odds-on to beat the drop at 1/16, but Coral offer a more enticing price of 8/1 for them to go down.
Arsenal have certainly lacked goals recently, with just one in their last three league games, so are certainly overdue to correct that. Wenger’s side have, however, opened the scoring in 20 of their 30 matches this campaign, so back frontman Olivier Giroud at 3/1 to net first.
