Hernandez and Fellaini on Spurs boss Pochettino’s radar
Manchester United misfit duo Javier Hernandez and Marouane Fellaini are reported joint £24m targets for Premier League top four hopefuls Tottenham (3/1), as Mauricio Pochettino looks to bolster his attack.
While both players featured for the Red Devils in their opening day home 2-1 loss to Swansea City, it seems that boss Louis van Gaal has set his sights on letting the pair leave Old Trafford.
Hernandez stood in for Robin van Persie, but the Dutchman is expected to return for United’s next match at Sunderland. Fellaini, meanwhile, came on for Ander Herrera against the Swans.
Spurs are in desperate need of a striker with just Spanish flop Roberto Soldado, inconsistent Emmanuel Adebayor and youngster Harry Kane on their books.
Chicharito, still only 26, is a proven scorer everywhere he plays, whether for his former side Guadalajara (26 goals in 64 league games), playing for his nation Mexico (36 in 66) or for United (59 in 153 matches in all competitions).
Juust under half of those appearances for the Red Devils were off the bench, though, and Hernandez’s energetic Aztecs boss Miguel Herrera has given him strong advice from across the Pond, suggesting he should move on.
“I think Hernandez needs to leave,” Herrera said. However, the national coach proposed a switch to Italy would be better. “I think Juventus would be a good option for him,” he added.
“When you have your best experience, your best moment with a coach, and now the coach that wanted you is no longer there, it’s time to move.
“I think there are a lot of opportunities. They are not bad opportunities. If he goes to Juventus that would be an extraordinary team. Without a doubt, it would be a nice change for him. Hopefully he’ll see more minutes.”
However, a move for Fellaini, who has also been strongly linked to Napoli, may be scuppered, due to the big Belgian flop suffering an ankle injury during training.
While it is not reportedly not serious, he was pictured wearing a protective boot on the way to hospital, and it seems it will be difficult for him to pas a medical before the September 1st transfer deadline.
