Manchester City tempting 20/1 to remain unbeaten all season

After three matches, Manuel Pellegrini’s side sit top of the Premier League table with an unblemished record of nine points and no goals conceded. Coral make them 20/1 to remain unbeaten all season, or 7/4 to not be defeated at the Etihad for the rest of the campaign.

City look in the mood this term and appear able to adapt effectively against different opposition, home or away. Their bow at the start of the campaign, away at West Bromwich Albion, was nothing more than doing the simple things better than poorer quality opposition as they ran out 3-0 winners.

Pellegrini followed that up by seeing his charges race out of the blocks as they played host to Chelsea, capitalising on the high Blues’ backline and John Terry’s lack of pace to again win 3-0.

Against Everton at Goodison Park; a completely different match, City were patient and disciplined as they defended in numbers and probed, eventually picking the Toffees off with two second half goals.

By trade, Pellegrini is an engineer, having earned a degree after retiring from football and, with the level of exhaustive detail needed in this profession, he applies this to football to meticulously prepare his players. The Chilean coached has taken his engineering background into football in fine fashion, building teams that rely on strong defensive foundations which allow forward flair to flourish.

Evidence of this has been on show in Man City’s first three games of the season, with Pellegrini easing new signing Raheem Sterling into the team. Mercilessly mocked for paying £49m for him in the summer, this already looks to be an astute buy, so Man City are having the last laugh.

The injection of pace down the left-hand side, not only gives City a faster transition though his presence in the side, but David Silva more space to conjure openings. After capturing star defender Nicolas Otamendi to partner a revitalised Vincent Kompany in the heart of defence, and with Kevin De Bruyne potentially on his way, there is no reason why the club can’t go unbeaten all season if they keep up their current focus and hunger.
