Reds seek overturn of Eagles fortunes
Jurgen Klopp has breathed a new lease of life into Liverpool since taking charge at Anfield, but his next task will be to overturn recent domestic disasters against Crystal Palace, with the Reds having lost three of their last five Premier League meetings with the Eagles.
Liverpool are unbeaten since a loss to Manchester United in September, and come into their latest clash on the back of three successive victories, including an impressive 3-1 win over champions Chelsea, but recent history suggests Palace are capable of causing another upset.
Having been on the winning side in four of the last seven match-ups with Liverpool in all competitions, the Eagles are 9/2 with Coral to soar to another outstanding victory this time out on the red half of Merseyside.
Goals galore at Anfield?
Alan Pardew’s Eagles have struck three times in each of their last three Premier League encounters with the Anfield outfit, while the hosts have bagged five goals in their previous three outings across all competitions.
All signs point towards an abundance of goals at Anfield, making odds of 23/10 for four or more to be scored on Merseyside very tasty, while 11/2 for five or more total strikes also looks appealing.
Eagles forward Dwight Gayle has netted an impressive three strikes in four appearances against Liverpool, including at Anfield, and he is 2/1 to strike another anytime in his latest outing.
Meanwhile, Belgium international frontman Christian Benteke will look to enjoy scoring success on his domestic comeback, having returned from injury in the Europa League, and he is 4/1 to net last, after scoring in the final 15 minutes of three of his previous four league outings.
Cabaye on the spot
Palace’s superb summer signing Yohan Cabaye has been a huge hit at Selhurst Park, after reuniting with former Newcastle United coach Pardew, becoming a key component for the Eagles this campaign.
The France international midfielder has been an integral aspect to Palace’s goals this term, especially from 12 yards, having dispatched three penalties in their last seven games, contributing massively to the four total strikes in those matches.
Cabaye is therefore 5/1 to net anytime at Anfield, and has experience of doing so, with two goals against the Reds during his time with the Magpies. Interestingly, on both occasions the Frenchman scored in those meetings, Newcastle earned a draw, and Palace are 14/5 to secure a stalemate with the midfield maestro in their ranks. Cabaye has also been on the winning side for former club Lille in a European clash against the Reds, and he could once again inspire a strong result.
Liverpool have got back to winning ways under the guidance of former Borussia Dortmund boss Klopp, making them the odds-on 4/6 favourites to triumph here, though they are 27/10 to win and both teams to score.
Philippe Coutinho has been at his Brazilian best in recent weeks and is 7/1 to repeat his double heroics against Chelsea this time out, as he continues to shine.
Klopp will look to maintain his side’s revived form until after the international break, when the likes of Daniel Sturridge and Jordan Henderson are set to return and boost his debut campaign further.
