Five players Arsene Wenger should sign after new Arsenal contract

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has signed a new three-year deal, extending his stay at the Emirates until the summer of 2017. In light of this latest news, Coral experts look at what players the 10/1 shots for the Premier League title next term need to buy in order to strengthen.

Iker Casillas
Recently winning his third Champions League with Real Madrid shows Spain skipper and stopper Casillas is still a top quality keeper. Diego Lopez plays week in, week out when the Bernabeu outfit has La Liga commitments, though.

The Gunners have just one senior goalie on their books, as Lukasz Fabianski joined Garry Monk’s Swansea on a free transfer, while Emiliano Viviano returns to Palermo having spent the season on loan without playing once.

Wojciech Szczesny needs back-up or even a custodian that could displace him as Arsenal number one. Casillas would be the outstanding candidate.

Serge Aurier
Ivory Coast right back Aurier looks set to follow a well-blazed trail from Ligue 1 to the Gunners. Bacary Sagna is out of contact, and has confirmed he is leaving, so Wenger should move for the Toulouse man right away.

Six goals and seven assists in the French top-flight for his current club show Aurier is a real attacking outlet from the flank of defence. He is very much in the Sagna mould, and there are doubts over whether Carl Jenkinson could make the step up.

Javi Martinez
Arsenal need steel as well as silk in midfield, and Bayern Munich anchor Martinez would be perfect for Wenger. He seamlessly combines that gritty side of the game with providing elegant protection for the back four, which is essential to the passing philosophy at the Emirates.

Martinez is also adept as a centre back, which would come in handy as this is another area that the Gunners need cover in. He is not sure of his place under Pep Guardiola at the Allianz, because of a glut of other talented midfielders.

Antoine Griezmann
Real Sociedad forward Griezmann has finally got the recognition he deserves for hugely impressive back-to-back campaigns in La Liga with the Basque outfit. This talented winger will be going with France to the World Cup finals in Brazil.

Injuries to Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain overlapped during the mid-winter period when Arsenal historically struggle. Signing Griezmann would give them another fine option for such berths and genuine width to boot.

Karim Benzema
It is no secret that Wenger has pursued Benzema ever since he played for Lyon. Could this finally be the summer when he prizes this Les Bleus striker from Real Madrid? Like Casillas, he helped Los Blancos capture ‘la decima’, a historic 10th European Cup.

An impressive haul of 24 goals in 52 games in all competitions for the Bernabeu outfit is rather dwarfed by Cristiano Ronaldo’s contributions. Benzema could move out of this huge shadow by throwing his lot in with the Gunners.

Arsenal are odds-on at 10/11 to record a top four finish in 2014/15.
