Premier League: Spurs tracking West Brom’s Saido Berahino
Tottenham, 6/1 with Coral for a top four Premier League finish next season, want to reunite Harry Kane with his Under-21 strike partner Saido Berahino, who could cost at least £15m.
The striker really came into his own last season, scoring 20 goals in all competitions and it is this kind of back-up that Kane could do with. He also had a breakthrough campaign, netting 21 goals in the Premier League and 31 in all competitions.
Mauricio Pochettino is said to be desperate to link the duo up and believes his team will become even more clinical in front of goal.
With both Emmanuel Adebayor and Roberto Soldado surplus to requirements and up for sale, the hunt for a frontman is even more imperative.
It is thought that West Brom are keen to keep their star striker and as a result are preparing to offer him an extension to his two-year contract and a substantial pay rise with the 21-year-old currently on £15k per week.
However, the Baggies will be wary that should Spurs make a firm offer, Berahino is bound to be interested and may personally request to leave in order to further his career.
In that respect, boss Tony Pulis has always been understanding and has a good relationship with his players, often acting as a father figure, so he may well advise the player the best he can. With the cash they receive, the West Midlands club can also strengthen considerably.
Spurs, meanwhile, will be getting a truly fantastic prospect, and boss Pochettino has proved how well he works with young English talent, Kane a prime example, though the hotbed of talent at Southampton when he was manager there, is another.
Should the north London side land him, it will be interesting to see whether Pochettino switches to playing two out and out strikers, or just one lone forward, however, Berahino would certainly give him options.
