Reliant Robin van Persie can fire Manchester United to success
The big game on Sunday sees Manchester United play host to arch-rivals Liverpool (1.30pm KO, Live on Sky Sports 1), and the home side look worthy 4/5 shots with Coral to inflict more misery of Brendan Rodgers’ men.
Liverpool won the corresponding fixture last season 3-0, but prior to that United had triumphed on the previous three occasions they had met in the league at Old Trafford.
United were also in a state of turmoil last term with David Moyes in charge, whilst Liverpool with flying high thanks to their SAS strike force of sold Luis Suarez and sidelined Daniel Sturridge.
Things could not be much different this season, as United are growing with confidence under new manager Louis van Gaal and on an unbeaten run of five in the top flight.
Liverpool, meanwhile, are looking a shadow of their former selves since Suarez’s departure, and come into the game having been dumped out of the Champions League in midweek after a woeful display at home against Basel.
The Merseysiders are currently lacking in passion, as well as any cutting edge up front, and also have a defence which has more holes than a sieve.
United, on the other hand, are grinding out results, despite a long list of injuries and gathering momentum with every game.
They are the form side in the league at present, and I fully expect them to attack Liverpool from the off and secure all three points with a comfortable success.
Robin van Persie has netted six in his last nine Premier League appearances against Liverpool, and comes into the contest having grabbed both goals in United’s 2-1 win at Southampton earlier in the week.
The Dutchman only had three shots during that game, but clinically took his chances and looks well worth a wager at 4/1 in the first goalscorer market to enhance his tremendous record against the Reds.
Another bet that stands out like a sore thumb is over 2.5 goals at 8/11 with Coral, as it is a total which has been breached in this fixture for the last seven seasons.
United to win – 4/5
Robin van Persie first goalscorer – 4/1
Over 2.5 goals – 8/11
