Remy on Crystal Palace radar as Pardew eyes another link-up

Crystal Palace, 8/1 with Coral for a top 10 finish, are reportedly tracking Chelsea’s French striker Loic Remy, as boss Alan Pardew looks to link up again with the player he had on loan at Newcastle.

Should the Eagles land Remy, it is thought they would have to break their transfer record for the second time in 12 months, with the 28-year-old rated at £10m.

The Frenchman made the move to Chelsea two days before the end of the summer transfer window, though has largely played second fiddle to £32m man Diego Costa, with Jose Mourinho preferring to utilise one centre forward in a 4-2-3-1 system.

Remy would suit the system that Pardew has installed at Palace, where he has relied on pace and power up front to drag the south London club away from the relegation zone, with Dwight Gayle, Frazier Campbell and Yaya Sanogo proving a nightmare for defenders.

Those three have often rotated in a two up front, with lively wingers Yannick Bolasie and Wilfried Zaha adding even more zip to a side that has the potential to really push on in the Premier League. Should Remy join, it may mean Sanogo’s loan isn’t renewed for next season; however, Pardew does like to have a variety of frontmen.

At Newcastle, he was fairly prolific netting 14 goals in 27 appearances, though at the Blues this season, with limited chances, has only managed five in 24 across all competitions. Remy had largely been reduced to the role of substitute, where it is often hard to come on and impact a game.

There is no doubt that he can have an impact at Palace, and this could be a club which can offer him stability going forward, as well as the requisite ambition. The Eagles are on the verge of being taken over by a US consortium of multi-millionaires, who would invest strategically in the club to take them to the next level.
