Coral’s rumour reel
It’s here, the January window has flung open, bringing with it a fresh winter wind flowing with gossip. As Jurgen Klopp’s title tilt continues, it appears he is eyeing offensive reinforcements with Mexican striker Raul Jimenez to Liverpool linked on today’s back pages.
The forward reportedly nearly joined West Ham United in 2015, but the Reds are now are apparently keen to snap him up.
Jimenez to Liverpool?
Bad news for Daniel Sturridge, as there could soon be another offensive option arriving at Anfield.
Klopp is reportedly a big admirer of the Mexican marksman and is keen to steal a march on rivals by bagging Benfica’s goalscorer.
Reports out of Portugal claim Liverpool are preparing a bid of around £22m, but a January deal could be difficult to pull off.
The preferred option for Benfica would be to cash in at the end of the season, as they face a title race with bitter rivals Porto in the Primeira League, and soon face Borussia Dortmund in the last 16 of the Champions League.
During his spell with Atletico Madrid, West Ham were close to signing Jimenez, but the forward supposedly failed to show up for his medical after he ‘overslept’ and missed his flight.
Jimenez has netted five in 10 league appearances this term and won the league and cup double in his first season in Portugal.
Koeman to pounce for Keane?
Staying on Merseyside, Michael Keane looks set to reject a new offer from Burnley and let his contract expire at the end of next season.
This has reportedly put Premier League clubs on high-alert, with Ronald Koeman’s Everton ready to pounce in January for a fee in the region of £20m.
The Toffees were recently reportedly priced out of a deal recently for Virgil van Dijk, after Southampton slapped a £50m price tag on the Dutchman.
Keane has flourished since moving to Burnley in 2015, was key to the side winning the Championship last season and looks a Prem quality centre back.
Everton have struggled defensively of late and have also been linked with a swoop for Manchester United’s Chris Smalling.
