Coral’s Rumour Reel
As 35-year-old Zlatan Ibrahimovic begins to show his age and Wayne Rooney continuing to occupy a place on the bench, it appears Jose Mourinho is preparing for life without them, with Celtics’ Moussa Dembele to Manchester United linked in today’s back pages.
Dembele has caught the eye since his move to Scotland this summer, and is now attracting interest from Europe’s biggest clubs.
Dembele to Man Utd
Old Trafford scouts reportedly attended Celtic’s match against Ross County in Dingwall on Wednesday night to see Hoops move seven points clear at the top of the Scottish Premiership.
The 20-year-old Frenchman started on the bench in a widely changed starting lineup. However, coming on with 32 minutes remaining, Dembele tapped home an injury time strike to register his 15th of the season in all competitions.
Mourinho is reportedly reassessing his striking options in Manchester and a move for the highly rated Bhoys forward could be in the offing come summer.
Dembele has also shown he can perform at the highest level of European football, scoring twice against Manchester City in the Champions League.
Catalan club chase Clyne?
Since Dani Alves’ departure at Barcelona, the Catalan club have struggled to replace him – attempting to convert winger Aleix Vidal to a full back.
Now, former central midfielder Sergi Roberto occupies the right back berth, but Barca want a specialist – reports suggest.
Nathaniel Clyne’s age, pace and solid quality on the ball make him a preferred option at the Nou Camp.
However, with the 25-year-old’s contract stretching to 2020, the reigning La Liga champions will have to fork out a big fee.
Jurgen Klopp’s full back has impressed since moving to Anfield in 2015 for £12.5m, and has won 13 England caps.
Rooney eyes Old Trafford exit?
United’s captain and second all-time leading scorer Rooney could be edging towards exiting the club he has been at since he was 18, as reports suggest he has begun talks to join LA Galaxy.
The Californian club appear to be about to lose Steven Gerrard as he looks to join the coaching setup at Liverpool.
Mourinho reportedly has told Rooney to leave Old Trafford if he wants first team football, but the England captain wants to keep going until he breaks Sir Bobby Charlton’s Red Devils scoring record.
Alternatively, Inter Milan’s new Chinese owners are also interested in Rooney, as they search for a global name to kickstart their reign at the San Siro.
