Five signings for Arsenal after Pires says to buy Khedira to win title

Following former Arsenal legend’s Robert Pires claim that if Arsene Wenger signs Sami Khedira in January they can win the Premier League title, currently 20/1 to do so with Coral. Therefore, we take a look at who else they could do with, if they mount a challenge.

Speaking ahead of the start of the Indian Super League, for which Pires has been drafted in to play in by Brazil World Cup winner Zico, who is managing FC Goa, the 40-year-old said: “He [Wenger] needs a big player in the middle, like [Patrick] Vieira, strong, tall, because this position is very important for the balance between attack and defence.

“The quality is there but you need more, maybe [someone] like Yaya Toure in the middle. He reminds me of Patrick Vieira, maybe they have an opportunity with Khedira. It is likely in the January window. He played very well with Germany,” he continued.

“My advice is if he can buy Khedira he can be the [new] Vieira, more aggression in the middle. He has a lot of experience. When you play in the middle you need experience, especially when your midfield is young like Arsenal’s.”

With this in mind, Coral suggest five more names who could make a difference to Arsenal’s title charge.

Paul Pogba
He has been linked with a controversial move to Manchester City to eventually replace Yaya Toure, however Wenger’s French connections may be able to influence the Juventus midfielder’s decision if he does decide to leave Turin. The opportunity to emulate compatriot Patrick Vieira may be too much of a chance to resist, and Arsenal could afford the reported £40m price tag, with City having to cut back.

Mats Hummels
A name that simply won’t go away, and the tabloids persist in linking him with a move away from Borussia Dortmund, who are struggling in the Bundesliga. Hummels would slot straight into Arsenal’s defence and dramatically improve them. Any fee would be between £20m-£30m, and the German international would most likely replace compatriot Per Mertesacker.

Julian Draxler
This rumour has resurfaced recently, after Arsenal were linked with 21-year-old Draxler last season; however, a £37m buyout clause appeared to put Wenger off. Schalke at some point will cash in on their prized asset, with the only other option being that he runs his contract down, and the player said to be ambitious. No doubt he will add quality to Arsenal.

Karim Benzema
Arsenal have reportedly held secret talks with Real Madrid’s Benzema, though any move for the striker may put an end to his compatriot, Olivier Giroud’s career at the club, or even Lukas Podolski. If a move does materialise, it would mean the Gunners have an attack consisting Alexis Sanchez, Danny Welbeck, Theo Walcott, Podolski and Giroud.

Edinson Cavani
Another player that is apparently courting interest from the north London club, and any fee would be in excess of £50m. Cavani is allegedly unhappy at club PSG and a change of scenery may be exactly what he needs to flourish. Linking up with Sanchez and Ozil could be a mouthwatering combination.
