South coast derby the star of Tuesday Premier League tussles

Holly Thackeray | February 29, 2016

There are an array of midweek melees to tempt punters, as the Premier League picks up the pace on Tuesday evening.

After a jam-packed weekend which saw Leicester City stay heroically at the table’s summit, Manchester United’s young-guns overthrow Arsenal and Manchester City claim the Capital One Cup, there are still more dramatic duels to come.

In fact, there are derbies galore, as south coast rivals Bournemouth and Southampton square-up, and Leicester meet West Bromwich Albion in a Midlands match-up. While, Everton travel to Aston Villa, Sunderland face Crystal Palace and Norwich City host Chelsea.

Check out our preview of these five fixtures below for some tasty tips…

Bournemouth v Southampton

  • Premier League
  • Tuesday, March 1st
  • Kick-off: 19:45 GMT
  • Dean Court, Bournemouth
  • Live on BT Sport 1

Saints to sink stalled Cherries

Highlighting the remarkable rise of these two formerly troubled clubs, is only the second-ever top-tier south coast derby, as Southampton make the short trek for a televised Dean Court battle with Bournemouth.

Southampton's Victor Wanyama (left) and AFC Bournemouth's Harry Arter battle for the ball during the Barclays Premier League match at St Mary's, Southampton.

Ronald Koeman’s Saints (13/8 favourites) took the spoils earlier this season with ease, as they ran out 2-0 winners on St Mary’s soil, and there are appealing odds of 11/1 for that same scoreline again.

The Cherries (19/10 for a home win) seem crushed after five games in all competitions without a win, and are once again feeling the relegation squeeze, as they sit just five points from 18th place.

Republic of Ireland striker Shane Long is the man of the moment for Saints, and is 6/1 to strike first. While, Charlie Austin is 5/4 anytime for an overdue second goal. Though, as Bournemouth have failed to bag for two games, best value may be found in a 3/1 Southampton win to nil.

Leicester City v West Bromwich Albion

  • Premier League
  • Tuesday, March 1st
  • Kick-off: 19:45 GMT
  • King Power Stadium, Leicester

Foxes tracking Albion scalp

In the other derby of the day, table toppers Leicester are 4/5 odds-on favourites for victory over Midlands rivals West Brom, as they aim to stay ahead of the Premier League pack.

The Foxes bounced back with a little help from super sub Leonardo Ulloa’s last-gasp winner last time out, with the Argentine 19/10 to make an impact again anytime.

Meanwhile, Tony Pulis’ team edged Palace in their previous outing, with Saido Berahino (2/1) back on the scoresheet.

There have been 10 goals across the past two meetings, so punters can pick odds of 15/2 for over 4.5 strikes to occur again. Or, 33/1 for the Foxes to win 3-2 for the third time on the trot.

Jamie Vardy has fired in both of his last two games against the Baggies, with both late goals, so is the best scoring shout at 10/3 for the final blow.

Aston Villa v Everton

  • Premier League
  • Tuesday, March 1st
  • Kick-off: 19:45 GMT
  • Villa Park, Birmingham

Expecting Everton excitement v Villa

Staying in the Midlands, rock-bottom Aston Villa welcome a Toffees team that have triumphed to nil on their last three away trips in all competitions, and are 15/8 to do so again at Villa Park.

Dynamic duo Ross Barkley and Romelu Lukaku, who both struck in their last game and bagged braces agaisnt this opposition in an earlier 4-0 rout, are tempting at 11/2 and 3/1 to notch first and last respectively.

Everton's Romelu Lukaku (centre) celebrates scoring their first goal of the game with team-mate Ross Barkley during the Barclays Premier League match at Goodison Park, Liverpool.

Goals are certainly in the offing after Villa shipped eight in their past two matches, so back Everton at 9/1 to net three or more again.

Norwich City v Chelsea

  • Premier League
  • Tuesday, March 1st
  • Kick-off: 19:45 GMT
  • Carrow Road, Norwich

Blues can silence Canaries

Chelsea should travel to Carrow Road with a spring in their step after fighting back to sink Saints, with a victory to nil an enticing 9/5.

Norwich have boasted little net threat of late, with two strikes clocked up in their preceding four fixtures. Still, the Canaries can be cagey, as they almost held Leicester at the weekend, so are best value for a positive result at 3/1 to pinch a point.

Britain Soccer Champions League

Though, with all of in-form Willian (8/1 for the last goal), Diego Costa (7/1 to strike first) and Oscar (5/4 in the anytime market) having found the target against this team before, it looks unlikely Norwich can hold off a Blues battering.

Sunderland v Crystal Palace

  • Premier League
  • Tuesday, March 1st
  • Kick-off: 19:45 GMT
  • Stadium of Light, Sunderland

Black Cats can claw a point from Eagles encounter

Sunderland continue to struggle in the relegation zone but, recent results have shown they are prepared to dig in, after causing both Manchester United and Liverpool problems.

A narrow loss to West Ham United has made this clash even more important, and the Black Cats are 29/20 to complete a league double over their guests, after shocking Palace at Selhurst Park back in November.

West Ham United's manager Sam Alladyce

Big Sam’s boys do look a better punt at 9/4 for the draw, however, as the Eagles will be keen to respond on the road following another surprise sinking to West Brom.

Former Sunderland striker Connor Wickham struck a brace against the Baggies, and is 15/8 to heap misery on his old club anytime. While, Jermain Defoe, who won the reverse for the Wearsiders, is 11/2 to dispatch the opener in front of home fans.
