Spurs chasing quintet of players ahead of January transfer window

Premier League top six chances Tottenham (6/4 with Coral) are a team in desperate need of uplifting, following their inconsistent form that has seen them drop to 10th place in the table this term.

As a result, boss Mauricio Pochettino has reportedly asked the north London club hierarchy to recruit a number of players to repair their fragile spine.

The likes of Southampton duo Morgan Schneiderlin and Jay Rodriguez have been to Spurs again, as well as centre backs Raul Albiol and Virgil van Dijk, and striker Andrej Kramaric.

After already snatching Pochettino and, more recently, head of recruitment Paul Mitchell from the Saints, Tottenham are looking to reunite the France international midfielder and England forward, who has yet to play this season.

Centre backs Van Dijk of Celtic and Napoli’s Spain half centurion Albiol, meanwhile, are being tracked to help plug a hole in their leaky defence, which have let in 18 goals from 15 games so far in the Premier League.

Dutchman Van Dijk (available for around £10m) could be the easier player to obtain, due to Mitchell’s past links with the Scottish champions, where he was involved in bringing former Hoops stars Victor Wanyama and Fraser Forster to St Mary’s.

Spurs also have their eye on prolific Croatian scorer Kramaric, who has netted an astonishing 21 goals in 16 top-flight games for his domestic club Rijeka. The 23 year old’s form has earned him four international caps this year, and he has netted twice.

However, they will all come at a cost, of course, with Pochettino reportedly allowed to spend £20m, including sale of current players, on new recruits. The likes of Emmanuel Adebayor, Jan Vertonghen, Aaron Lennon and Mousa Dembele have all been linked with moves away from White Hart Lane.

Despite their poor form, Spurs, who have won just four of their last 13 Premier League games, are still in with a chance of finishing in the top four, being five points behind, and are 8/1 chances to be there at the end of the season.
