How the stars of the World Cup have started the season

The World Cup must seem, to most people, an age ago. Here at Coral, we have been reminiscing fondly at some of the wonder goals, top saves and memorable matches that lit up the global stage, and we take a look at how some of those star performers have fared so far this season.

James Rodriguez
The 23-year-old Colombian ensured no one would forget his name in a hurry. Having scored six goals to lead his country to the quarter-finals, Rodriguez swiftly earned a £63m move from Monaco to Real Madrid, who are 11/10 with Coral to win La Liga this season. He has started the season brightly, and appears to be settling into his surroundings, scoring three goals and contributing two assists in all competitions.

Mario Gotze
Germany’s next big superstar came off the bench to net the winner in the World Cup final against Argentina, and has used this as a platform to push on this season. He has scored five goals and made three in all competitions this term, becoming an integral part of Pep Guardiola’s team at Bayern Munich, who are heavily odds-on at 1/33 to win Bundesliga this term.

Enner Valencia
He was the shining light for Ecuador, netting three times, which earned him a move to West Ham United, who are 2/1 to secure a top 10 finish in the Premier League this season. Although he was unable to prevent his country from being eliminated at the group stage, he has looked impressive for the Hammers and is starting to settle in, chipping in with one goal so far.

Neymar
The Barcelona man was always predicted to do well for Brazil, and maybe too much pressure was piled on his shoulders, however his haul of four goals was still able to get the Samba Boys to the semi-finals. He has started the season in blistering fashion, finding the net eight times in all competitions with Barca odds-on at 5/6 to win La Liga.

Daley Blind
His fine performances for the Netherlands convinced his former national team boss Louis van Gaal to bring him to Manchester United, who are 14/1 to win the Premier League. The utility man is gradually settling into a virtually new team at Old Trafford and big things are expected from him.
