Swansea latest: Garry Monk makes Jefferson Montero move and more
Swansea City, 5/1 to be relegated from the Premier League, are expecting Ecuador’s World Cup winger Jefferson Montero in south Wales for a medical ahead of a proposed move from Mexican club Morelia.
The 24-year-old was a regular for La Tri at the Brazil finals and is now set to discuss personal terms with the Swans. Manager Garry Monk may be moving for Montero, because rumours persist linking Pablo Hernandez with an exit from the Liberty Stadium. It is claimed his destination could be the Middle East.
Hernandez is just one of several Swansea names that has speculation surrounding his future. Fellow Spaniards Jose Canas and Alejandro Pozuelo are rumoured to no longer be part of Monk’s plans, as they were left out of the squad for a pre-season tour of the USA.
Netherlands goalie Michel Vorm, 30, has been the subject of interest from other teams, but the club refused to confirm if one of those was Liverpool. Monk has brought Polish stopper Lukasz Fabianksi to the club following his release from FA Cup winners Arsenal.
Reds boss Brendan Rodgers has been linked with raiding his former team for both Clockwork Orange keeper Vorm and Wales left back Ben Davies. He already poached midfielder Joe Allen when the Northern Irishman jumped ship to Anfield. Davies has also been a reported target for Tottenham coach Mauricio Pochettino.
In other Swans news, chairman Huw Jenkins wants South Korea midfielder Ki Sung-Yeung to stay at the Liberty. The former Celtic man, 25, is in the final year of his contract, but will only remain in south Wales if he commits his future to the club following a loan spell at Sunderland last season.
Swansea, 11/4 for a top 10 finish, remain in negotiations with Napoli over the potential transfer of Spanish forward Michu. The Neapolitan outfit want him on a permanent basis, but Jenkins is reportedly keen for the move to be made initially on loan.
