Tottenham target potential Parisians if Hugo Lloris leaves London

Tottenham hold one of the most sought-after goalkeepers in European football within their ranks in the form of France captain Hugo Lloris, and current club coach Maurico Pochettino may look to use his sublime stopper as a gateway to securing other potential talent.

The north London outfit have fallen six points behind in their pursuit of a Champions League spot for next season, and are now available at 16/1 with Coral to secure a top four finish this term, having dropped to seventh position.

This recent Premier League stumble could have further ramifications, with star stopper Lloris a potential high-profile departure this summer, as French champions PSG continue to circle for his signature.

Laurent Blanc’s Ligue 1 leaders have been keen admirers of the fantastic French shot-stopper for many seasons, and are reportedly stepping up their interest, seeing him as a replacement for current number one Salvatore Sirigu.

Spurs recently played down reports that highly-regarded first-choice goalkeeper Lloris has a contract clause which would allow him to depart London for a mere £14.5m, but it hasn’t dampened PSG’s determination to land the France international.

The former Lyon stopper has long been tipped for a move to a top European club and, with Spurs set to miss out on a place in next season’s elite club continental competition, Pochettino’s nightmare of losing his crucial number one could soon become a harsh reality.

Although, Lloris’ possible switch from London to Paris could have its positives for Tottenham, with a host of PSG stars possibly set to move in the opposite direction as part of a big-money deal.

Pochettino could test the French champions’ determination to sign Lloris with a requested inclusion of out-of-favour midfielder Yohan Cabaye in the deal.

The former Newcastle United maestro moved to the Parc des Princes for a reported £19m in January 2014, but has failed to make a lasting impact in the French capital.

Assuming Tottenham’s Argentine boss offloads several of his current lacklustre midfielders, including Paulinho and Mousa Dembele, Cabaye could potentially be a transfer gem at White Hart Lane.

Boasting attacking talents in abundance, the former Tyneside favourite would provide Spurs with that spark and creativity from a central position which would take them to a higher level, building on what deadly Dane Christian Eriksen has implemented into the squad so far in his Tottenham career.

Cabaye could challenge Eriksen for that key attacking midfield role or be deployed in a deeper playmaking position alongside a midfield enforcer, similar to his time at St James’ Park when he played alongside Ivory Coast hatchet man Cheick Tiote.

Although, if a return to the top-flight for Cabaye is out of the question, Pochettino may look to some of PSG’s talented prospects as incomers instead, as part of a possible Lloris deal.

France Under-21 international Adrien Rabiot has been limited to just 18 appearances for the French champions this term, with the club boasting several dominant midfield options, and he may be tempted by a loan spell in London, having previously been on Manchester City’s books as a youth player.

The towering 19-year-old midfielder is superb on the ball and has creative skills capable of unlocking solid defences. Rabiot is likely to seek another loan move to help his progression towards a regular place in PSG’s starting line-up, and Spurs could offer that platform on which he can boost his credentials.

PSG will be keen to snap up Lloris this summer, but before then they face a tough task of clinching the Champions League trophy this year, and are 16/1 to do so in Berlin.
