Tottenham tracking attacking trio ahead of January transfer window

Top four chances Tottenham (9/2) are currently down in eighth place after 10 games in the Premier League with 14 points, three behind north London rivals Arsenal, who are in fourth, following a recent poor run of form.

However, the more worrying statistic is that Spurs have only managed to score 13 times in those matches, with just seven other sides getting fewer goals in the top-flight so far this term.

Mauricio Pochettino’s senior centre forwards Emmanuel Adebayor and Roberto Soldado have managed just four goals between them in all competitions this season, while the Argentine boss still seems reluctant to utilise Harry Kane more in the league.

The England Under-21 international striker has smashed in nine times this term in 13 games, including getting a late winner against Aston Villa last time out, but he is still yet to start in the Premier League.

Therefore, it seems that Pochettino has set his sights on signing more talent up front, with the likes of Teofilo Gutierrez, Jay Rodriguez and Patrick Herrmann all being linked to north London this January.

Colombian World Cup forward Gutierrez looks the most likely acquisition, and could be available for a price as little as £6m from his current club River Plate in Argentina.

The 29-year-old, who had a season once in Europe with Turkish outfit Trabzonspor in 2010/11, has 10 goals in 11 appearances this season so far. He also played a big part in Colombia’s run to the quarter-finals at the World Cup, in the absence of Radamel Falcao, and netted against Greece.

Pochettino could turn his attentions back to Southampton attacker Rodriguez, though, despite the England cap still yet to return from a serious knee injury.

Rodriguez, 25, was in flying form last term for the saints as he scored 15 times in the league from a number of roles in forward areas. However, he may be tempted to stay with the south coast side given their impressive form that sees them currently up in second in the table.

Finally, German Herrmann is also reportedly on Pochettino’s wishlist. The 26-year-old winger, who can play on either side, is also a target for Serie A giants Inter Milan, having impressed this term for Borussia Monchengladbach.

Spurs’ chances of a top four finish this season may be slim, but they have odds of 13/10 to be in the top six. They face Greek club Asteras Tripolis next in the Europa League, and are odds-on at 4/5 to beat them. Starlet Kane is 5/4 in the anytime market to try and impress Pochettino further.
