Tottenham tracking talented World Cup winger Andy Najar

Premier League top four chances Tottenham (3/1) are reportedly leading the chase to sign young winger Andy Najar from Anderlecht in January, with other clubs from England as well as Spain and Italy also said to be tracking him.

The 21-year-old Hondurus international impressed for his country at the World Cup in Brazil, as he played in tricky games against both France and Switzerland. He also featured in the finals warm up game against England, which ended in a stalemate.

Najar, who can also be used as a right back and defensive midfielder, has started the term for Belgian champions Anderlecht in the league in style, losing none of the games he’s played in, and scoring in his last two matches.

Diminutive young Honduran Najar has also started in two Champions league fixtures this season, in a draw with Galatasaray and loss to German giants Borussia Dortmund, where Spurs scouts saw him. Anderlecht next face a double header with Tottenham’s north London rivals Arsenal, who are also reported suitors, starting at home, with scouts sure to be in attendance again for the Emirates game.

Mauricio Pochettino’s new club have already tracked the player twice this term, and it looks ever more certain they will make a move, after missing out on him as a teenager when they had him on trial. He is tied to his current team until 2018, though, so Spurs would have to pay the top end of his value.

Nicknamed the Little Warrior, Najar moved to Anderlecht, initially on loan, in 2013, after starting his career with MLS outfit DC United, where he once won the Rookie of the Year award. Though he was born in Honduras, he moved to the USA in his early teens and had the chance to represent the Stars and Stripes after being eligible for citizenship, but instead picked his homeland.

Najar has since picked up 20 caps for the Central American side, scoring one goal, and has been tipped as a future star.

Tottenham, who are currently up in sixth place in the Premier League after recently beating Southampton 1-0, have the likes of Erik Lamela, Andros Townsend, Nacer Chadli and Aaron Lennon in wing positions. Najar would therefore be challenging with them for a place in the team, should he make the move to White Hart Lane. The likes of Townsend and Lennon, though, have been linked with links away.
