Transfer rumour round-up: Liverpool confident in keeping Luis Suarez

The race to sign Luis Suarez may just have gone up a gear after the Uruguayan’s admission that “if another team comes around with more prospects of competing in international club competition games…we would talk to the club”.

Liverpool Chief executive Ian Ayre may have said “we fully expect him to be at Liverpool next season” but the Anfield club are in danger of missing out on Europe altogether in their first season under Brendan Rogers.

The chance to be part of Josep Guardiola’s reinterpretation of the already phenomenal Bayern Munich team would be difficult to resist for even loyal club men like Steven Gerrard, but Suarez has shown in the past that he’s far from sentimental in matters of self-betterment.

Just a year after Groningen brought him to Europe the fact that the club refused the striker a transfer to Ajax led Suarez to submit an appeal to the Dutch Football Association (KNVB) in an effort to force the deal through.

Elsewhere in the Premier League’s upper reaches Yaya Toure’s game of contract call-my-bluff continues, with the Ivorian demanding a new contract by Saturday. Chelsea and Real Madrid are among his confirmed admirers according to The Sun, with the London club willing to pay the £22m it would take to buy out his contract at Man City.

If Toure finds his way to Real Madrid he may be joined by a fellow Etihad locker room mucker this summer in the shape of Sergio Aguero, with the Argentine magician Los Merengues “number one target” according to the Daily Star.

Aguero had been linked to Real during his time at Atletico Madrid, but his then club refused to sell him to their city rivals. 18 months later the move has become that much more plausible after the break down of his marriage has seen the Citizens striker’s wife move back to Madrid along with his son Ben.
