West Brom want Sociedad’s Swiss striker Seferovic
West Bromwich Albion, 13/5 chances with Coral to be relegated, are reportedly keen on capturing Real Sociedad and Switzerland striker Haris Seferovic, according to the tabloids.
The 22-year-old only joined the Basque Country club last summer from Serie A side Fiorentina, but flopped badly in La Liga, scoring just twice. Seferovic made a better impact on international duty at the World Cup this summer, however, as he came off the bench to net a Swiss winner over Ecuador in their opening group game.
Recruited by Sociedad on a four-year deal, the striker of Bosnian descent was not in the matchday squad for a Europa League qualifier against Aberdeen. This has sparked speculation that Seferovic could be on his way from San Sebastian to the West Midlands.
Baggies head coach Alan Irvine is understood to be keen on strengthening his forward options at The Hawthorns. He has already splashed a reported club record £10m on Nigerian frontman Brown Ideye, but compatriot Victor Anichebe is the only other senior striker on West Brom’s books.
Talented youngster Saido Berahino is set to continue getting regular football at Albion, following the acrimonious departure of Nicolas Anelka. Attacking loan quartet Morgan Amalfitano, Thievy Bifouma, Scott Sinclair and Matej Vydra were all passed up for permanent deals, meanwhile, and have returned to their parent clubs.
Sociedad have already sold France international winger Antoine Grizemann to Spanish champions Atletico Madrid for big money, but have brought in Iceland attacker Alfred Finnbogason, as well as completing the full purchase of ex-Arsenal forward Carlos Vela. Seferovic may thus be surplus to requirements in San Sebastian, then.
Coral have opened a market on which Midlands club will finish highest in the Premier League, and the Baggies are 4/1 shots to better Birmingham neighbours Aston Villa, Leicetser City and Stoke City. West Brom are 7/2 for a top 10 finish.
