Winter window manifesto to ensure Bournemouth survival

Matt Haynes | January 2, 2016

Bournemouth, odds-on at 1/9 with Coral to stay up, will have identified the transfer window as a key opportunity to strengthen for the second half of the Premier League season, so we take a look at what they might possibly do as a result.

Striker key for Cherries

With Callum Wilson injured, Bournemouth will be keen to bring in a forward who can effectively fill the void left by his absence. Although they have recently signed Roma wideman Juan Iturbe on loan until the end of the season, they are unlikely to stop there.

Because they only Josh King and veteran forward Glenn Murray to choose from, their attacking ranks are relatively thin, though they have shouldered the scoring burden well and because of this, the Cherries are outside of the relegation zone.

Who could they sign?

January is always a difficult month to sign players, with many unavailable and clubs unwilling to sell their prized assets.

While there isn’t really a lot of choice in the Premier League, Stoke City’s Peter Crouch and Peter Odemwingie might both be viable options, with the duo falling down the pecking order at the Potters, and they wouldn’t command huge fees.

Crouch could well be tempted by a move back down to the south coast having previously played for Portsmouth and Southampton. Although Mark Hughes has recently said the striker is going nowhere, we all know that u-turns do happen in football.

Manchester United’s Nick Powell might be the answer to adding more deep-lying creativity to the team, and the midfielder may be allowed to leave if an offer comes in for him. Under Eddie Howe, Powell may find a new lease of life and can become an integral part of the Cherries side.

Forgotten Newcastle forward Emmanuel Riviere might also jump at the chance to revive his career on the south coast, with the Frenchman hardly featuring this season for the Magpies.
