PSV pursuing perfection in Eredivisie encounter at AZ Alkmaar

Dutch Eredivisie leaders PSV will be aiming to secure a 10th consecutive league triumph and extend their lead at the summit, when they travel to AZ Alkmaar.

The Philips Arena outfit, odds-on 5/6 favourites with Coral, are on a sensational run of form after rocketing to nine consecutive domestic league victories, opening a 12-point gap over bitter rivals Ajax.

PSV manager and Netherlands legend Phillip Cocu has helped his team march firmly towards the league title, and with six days left until their Europa League campaign continues, the dominant Dutch outfit won’t be distracted.

Cocu’s clinical side are unbeaten in the league in 15 outings, and are 29/10 to win to nil for a second time on the bounce on their travels, having recently eased past Breda in a comfortable 2-0 win.

Memphis Depay has been crucial to his side’s dominant surge this season, with the wonderful wideman striking an incredible 15 Eredivisie goals already, on his way to becoming the division’s tops corer.

Premier League pair Manchester United and Tottenham, plus PSG and Real Madrid, have all been linked with moves for the delightful Dutch maestro, with his recent rampant displays attracting potential suitors from all over Europe after 18 goals in all competitions.

Depay clinically bagged a brilliant brace to secure a 3-1 victory over Utrecht last time out, and is 3/1 to open proceedings against John van den Brom’s AZ outfit.

Although, the home side have been defensively solid in recent weeks and will prove a tough test for PSV, having gone unbeaten in five league outings and securing four impressive wins.

Among those victories was a stunning coup over reigning Dutch champions Ajax, with American attacker Aron Johannsson netting a late winner to secure a narrow 1-0 win at the Amsterdam ArenA.

The in-form forward, who has Icelandic heritage, has struck in two of his last two league appearances and has put his injury problems behind him. Johannsson is 2/1 to make it three in a row anytime against their high-flying rivals.

Last season AZ overcame their opponents with a closely contested 2-1 triumph, thanks to another well-taken strike from Johannasson. The fourth-placed side are 12/1 to emerge victorious with the same result this time out.

However, earlier in the campaign Alkmaar crashed to a hapless 3-0 defeat at the hands of Cocu’s men, with the Light Bulbs having won four of their previous five meetings.

Ajax have lifted the Eredivisie title for the past four seasons, but Cocu’s runaway PSV side will be confident of claiming their first league trophy since 2008 after a superb show of form this term. The league leaders are 5/1 to win both halves in their latest encounter.
