Real hoping to add second trophy of the season to their cabinet

Atletico Madrid maintained their arm wrestle over fierce rivals Real from last season, after drawing 1-1 in the first leg of the Spanish Super Cup at the Bernabeu.

James Rodriguez opened his account on his domestic debut for Los Blancos, with just under 10 minutes to go, reacting first in the penalty area to a loose ball to fire home from six yards out. Seven minutes later, the away team were level; midfielder Raul Garcia turning in from a corner. He is 11/4 to score at anytime in the second leg.

Diego Godin who put Atletico ahead in the Champions League final, and is a threat from set-pieces is 7/1 to score at anytime in front of a home crowd, although Gareth Bale who tested goalkeeper Miguel Moya on a number of occasions is 11/2 to score first.

Real now travel across the capital, and are 23/20 to win the match, with opponents Atelti at 12/5. There are, however, doubts about iconic attacker Cristiano Ronaldo’s chances of featuring after he was replaced by Rodriguez in the first leg due to a suspected back injury.

Rodriguez is hopeful that the Portuguese player will be available for the second installment. “Cristiano felt something during the game,” the 23-year-old Colombia star said following the final whistle. “We hope it’s nothing serious.”

World Cup Golden Boot winner Rodriguez displayed signs of things to come with his instinctive finish against Atleti: “I’m delighted because this is a dream for me,” he continued.

“I scored a goal and I hope I can score a lot more goals in the future. Step by step, and with a lot of training, I’m improving. It’s a pity (Atletico equalised) because we had the game in our hands.”

Rodriguez is 6/1 to repeat his performance in the second leg, and score the first goal, is confident that the team can achieve the outcome they want. “Now we must go to the Calderon and get a result,” he added. “We will have to be patient, find spaces and try to score.

“As a top team, we need to go out and win. I hope I can score again against Atletico on Friday and try to help my team win there.”
