Back Roy’s boys to secure a draw in Switzerland

England kick-off their Euro 2016 campaign with a tough away game to Switzerland tonight (7.45pm KO, Live on ITV1) and a draw is appealing from a punting perspective at 21/10 with Coral.

The Three Lions endured a miserable World Cup and warmed up for this with a totally uninspiring display when beating Norway 1-0.

Confidence in the camp seems low, and the pressure is beginning to show on manager Roy Hodgson, who swore during a press briefing after last week’s friendly victory.

Hodgson will need to rally the troops, and I think he will be happy to come away with a point against a Swiss side that are arguably the better team of this pair at present.

Unlike England, they made it out of their World Cup group and only bowed out in extra time to eventual runners-up Argentina in the last 16.

They have a good squad of players, and a new star in Xherdan Shaqiri who is going to pose a serious threat to the England defence which has looked far from solid of late.

If England can keep it tight at the back, then I can see them grinding out a draw and in the present circumstances that will be a good result.

Other bets that appeal are for both teams to score at even money and Wayne Rooney to net anytime at an enhanced special price of 3/1 with Coral.

Both sides look vulnerable at the back, and Rooney will be the main target man for England with Daniel Sturridge ruled out through injury.

The Manchester United striker has 41 international goals to his name following last week’s penalty against Norway and is currently fourth on England’s all-time scoring list.

Rooney 28, is just eight goals behind chart topper Sir Bobby Charlton, and is going to be the key to England unlocking the Swiss defence.

Best bets:
Match to be drawn – 21/10
Both teams to score -Evens
Rooney to net anytime – 3/1 special enhanced price
