Salford seek cup magic on travels to Hartlepool
After battling back to earn a 1-1 draw on home soil against Hartlepool, Salford City will now contest their League Two opponents in the FA Cup second round replay at Victoria Park, and the visitor’s joint-boss Bernard Morley will be hopeful based on recent away form.
Salford have gained the hearts of many football fans with their entertaining cup run, proving the magic is far from lost in England’s most beloved knockout competition, and they have actually enjoyed more domestic success on the road this term, which will favour them here.
This season, the Ammies have won nine out of their 10 away league clashes, but have endured several stuttering results on home soil, and the visitors are 9/2 with Coral for another shock victory in normal time, while Hartlepool are 12/5 to win with both teams scoring.
Pools poor patch a lift to Salford
Another uplifting factor for travelling Salford is the fact their opponents come into this encounter on the back of a 4-0 thrashing at the hands of Portsmouth during domestic duties, an under-par performance which has only added to boss Ronnie Moore’s growing frustration.
With that said, the visiting side may see this as the perfect time to arrive at the Victoria, with Hartlepool having won on just one occasion in their last seven League Two outings, including a worrying five defeats which have left them in 20th position.
That earlier Pompey demolition followed up losses to both Mansfield Town and Oxford United, giving them three consecutive domestic defeats, while Salford have lost one of their last 10 league outings, albeit in the seventh-tier, three divisions below Hartlepool.
Goals can be expected in cup clash
Danny Webber may well be the main man for Salford up front again, following his heroics earlier in the cup run, and he is 3/1 to strike within normal time, while Gareth Seddon is 11/4 to strike in 90 minutes on his return, having missed the previous two ties.
Ritchie Allen bagged a wonder-goal against Nottingham Forest previously and is 10/3 for another goal anytime on the road, with fellow attacker James Poole 8/1 to open proceedings against his former employers.
Salford defender Elliot Kebbie, once on the books at both Leeds United and Atletico Madrid, will have to deal with the threat of Pools poacher Rakish Bingham, who is 9/2 to net the game’s last goal, and 6/5 anytime scorer shout Scott Fenwick.
A draw, which is 3/1 to occur, will see the two sides enter extra-time and potentially penalties, but it’s an outcome which both teams will look to avoid, as Salford and Hartlepool battle for a coveted place in the FA Cup third round.
If you think Salford can produce some of that famous FA Cup magic, then why not head to Coral and back your selections?
