Scottish Premiership play-off semi: Gers hoping to finish off tie

Rangers (2/1 favourites with Coral in 90 minutes) hold a crucial 2-0 advantage going into this Scottish Premiership play-off semi-final with Hibernian (13/10), despite having fewer chances at Ibrox.

This will be the duo’s seventh meeting of the season, and they are exactly level on three wins apiece. Gers triumphed 2-0 in their last match at Easter Road, and are priced at 16/1 for that scoreline in their favour once more.

Former Scotland international Kenny Miller netted in both that fixture and in the play-off first leg, and he is a tempting 9/4 shout to score anytime against the club he started out for again.

The likes of Nicky Clark, Kris Boyd and Nicky Law are also decent chances to get goals, and are 23/10, 5/2 and 7/2 respectively in the same market.

However, Hibs boss Alan Stubbs, an ex-Celtic centre back, is confident his side can progress to the final, where Premiership club Motherwell awaits the winner.

“It’s far from over, the tie’s far from over,” he said. “Stating the obvious we’d like to score first if possible on Saturday and then we’ll see what a good game it could be.

“It’ll be an entertaining game, I’m sure it will be. We’ll come out and we’ll look to try and get that first goal if we can, whether that’s in the first 10, 20, 30 minutes, it’s still got the potential to go 120 minutes on Saturday.”

Jason Cummings is their best shout to opening the scoring at 11/2, having already netted three times against Rangers this season. He is also 19/10 in the anytime market.

“The reason we’re 2-0 down is we should have done better with their goals.” added Stubbs. “We had a few chances where, on another day, you’d like to think that we’d hit the target and make their keeper work.

“I thought we played some decent stuff. In the final third we probably just needed to take our time a bit more, sometimes it was a little bit rushed, one or two things just didn’t fall for us, but overall I can’t fault the way they played.”

One thing’s for sure, this match will produce fireworks, as two top Scottish team battle it out to make it back to the top flight. But back Stuart McCall’s Glasgow giants (10/11 odds-on favourites for promotion) to edge their Edinburgh rivals (12/1).
