Serie A: The lowdown on Juventus’ and Napoli’s title run-in

Scudetto crown could go down to the wire

Napoli pulled off a dramatic last-gasp victory at Juventus on Sunday, blowing the Serie A title race open in the process. Ahead of the final four games of the season, Juve are in pole position – but only by a single point.

With this battle likely to go down to the wire, the Coral News Team look at the pair’s remaining fixtures – and which side could edge this intriguing tussle…

Juventus:

Inter Milan (A) – Inter have been something of a bogey team for Juve. Massimiliano Allegri’s men have won just one of the last four meetings, and haven’t beaten Inter at the San Siro in three visits.

The last of those trips ended in a 2-1 defeat, and with I Nerazzurri in solid form, this could be another troublesome trip for the Old Lady. That’s reflected in the odds, with Double Chance: Inter or Draw priced at 4/7.

Bologna (H) – While Inter could seriously dent Juve’s title hopes, the visit of Bologna should be an easy three points. I Rossoblu have taken just two points from their last eight away games. In the Head-to-Head record, Juventus have won eight of the previous nine meetings.

Roma (A) – It’s hard to know what to expect from Roma at Stadio Olimpico. Fantastic on their own patch in the Champions League, they’ve lost four of the last seven home league games. However, Juve have taken a single point in three trips here.

Hellas Verona (H) – As with the Bologna game, this should be very straightforward for Allegri’s charges. Verona are all-but-sure of relegation, and that should be confirmed by the final game. They’ve also lost four of their last five outings.

Napoli:

Fiorentina (A) – In theory, this is the toughest of the four games for Partenopei. However, Fiorentina are enduring a blip in form, having lost to Lazio and Sassuolo in recent weeks.

Add in Napoli’s terrific away form – unbeaten in Serie A since October 2016 – and the visitors should win this. Victory for Napoli is an 8/15 shot.

Torino (H) – This is a fixture Maurizio Sarri’s charges have dominated, with Napoli winning all of the last five head-to-heads. In fact, they’ve scored a huge 13 goals in the last three alone.

Jose Callejon especially likes this game, scoring in three of the last four clashes. In short, the Coral News Team are expecting a high-scoring home win at Stadio San Paolo.

Sampdoria (A) – Marco Giampaolo’s side boast the fourth-best home record in the Italian top-flight. So it’s certainly possible they could scupper Napoli’s title dream.

However, the recent 5-0 home loss to Inter Milan suggests the attacking quality of I Nerazzurri could prove too hot to handle for Samp.

Crotone (H) – How tough of a test this is for Napoli depends largely on whether Crotone are still in a relegation battle on the final day. Right now they’re on course for safety, but still sit just a place above the drop zone.

Still, this is a game Sarri’s men should win under any circumstances. Especially having taken maximum points from the last three encounters.

Ahead of this weekend’s games, Juventus are 8/11 to lift the Serie A title. Meanwhile, it’s Evens for Napoli to be champions, ending their 28-year wait in the process.
