How did Cristiano Ronaldo get on in his Serie A debut?

Portuguese star made his bow for Juventus
Cristiano Ronaldo made his highly anticipated Juventus debut on Saturday afternoon in victorious fashion as his new side defeated Chievo 3-2.
The Portuguese ace was playing in the famed black and white stripes for the first time in a league fixture following his £99m summer switch from Real Madrid.
But how did the five-time Champions League winner get on with his new side? The Coral News Team have taken a look…
The headline numbers don’t make great reading. Ronaldo didn’t score on his debut and he didn’t supply an assist.
But that’s not to say he wasn’t a threat in Verona.
The 33-year-old hit nine shots during the match, with four on target.
He made 30 passes, with an accuracy of 90%, including two key balls. His aerial prowess showed too, winning three aerial battles.
Compared to Ronnie at Real
There is already an indicator that life in Italy may mean a different style of football for Ronaldo.
Those three aerial wins are double the number he averaged during his final few years in Spain.
Similarly, his nine shots on Saturday is substantially higher than his average in Madrid, which hovered around 5.6-6.5 during his last seasons.
The passing stats add up too. Ronnie averaged 80% pass accuracy with Los Blancos.
Ronaldo in numbers
What else did we learn?
Ronaldo’s move to Juve may have forced Gonzalo Higuain out, but in Paulo Dybala, the Turin side have a star for the future.
Boss Max Allegri started Ronaldo up front, with Dybala in behind. But it wasn’t quite the blistering start many expected. It was only when Mario Mandzukic came on and Ronnie moved out left that Juve really started to flow.
Allegri will doubtless have taken note of that.
What next for Ronaldo?
He didn’t get the debut goal, but the signs – and stats – say Ronaldo has started well at Juventus.
And he’ll need to be on-song again next time out for his home league debut.
Lazio are the visitors but Coral traders have Ronnie and his new side as 4/11 favourites to maintain their winning start.
