Lazio must triumph against AC Milan to keep pace with top four pack
This clash between Lazio, odds-on with Coral at 10/11 to win, and AC Milan, could well be a turning point in the season for whichever team triumphs, after both sides suffered recent slumps in form.
Milan have much ground to make up as they currently sit eighth in Serie A, but an away win against the Eagles could see them rise from mid-table mediocrity and bridge the gap with the top five to just two points.
League leaders Juventus and Roma may be streets ahead in the title race, but the tussle for the coveted third Champions League spot is still thrillingly open.
The Rossoneri have only won one of their last five games across all competitions, but have put in some of their best performances this campaign against the top sides, beating Napoli and drawing with both Roma and Inter Milan.
Filippo Inzaghi’s sleeping giants are great value at 3/1 to sink capital club Lazio at the Stadio Olympico, having already downed them 3-1 this season.
Top scorer Jeremy Menez was on target in that victory and is 7/1 to close the scoring again, or 2/1 in the anytime market.
Magic Menez has been thriving in a central striker role, and will be supported by new loan signing Alessio Cerci, who is also 2/1 in the same market.
Italy international Stephan El Shaarawy (15/2 to strike first) and Atalanta academy product Giacomo Bonaventura should complete Milan’s attacking threat and pose their hosts significant troubles on the counter.
Lazio, meanwhile, lost ground in their quest for a Champions League place recently, having picked up just one point in their last two battles against rivals Roma and Napoli.
The Eagles can, however, boast a sturdy record in Rome, having lost just three times this term in front of their vociferous home faithful.
Stefano Pioli will need to make the Stadio Olympico a fortress once again if they are to defeat of their Milanese visitors, as the Rossoneri are in impressive away form, having been defeated just once on the road.
Lazio’s dominance on home turf and Milan’s confidence on their travels could see these two teams settle for a draw at 12/5.
The Eagles and Rossoneri have split the spoils on 22 previous occasions, including two of their last three duels. That does not, however, mean this match-up will lack goals, as these sides have scored 60 between them in Serie A this season.
For hosts Lazio, prolific poacher Miroslav Klose should return from a rest and is available at 6/4 to be on target anytime. Serbian strike partner Filip Djordjevic is also 5/1 to fire home first, while skipper Stefano Mauri is 11/2 to close the scoring and step up in sidelined starlet Felipe Anderson’s absence.
