Roma to reassert title challenge against feisty and in-form Fiorentina
History is certainly on Roma’s side as they travel to Tuscany to face Fiorentina, where they are 2/1 favourites with Coral to triumph.
The Giallorossi have taken the spoils at the Stadio Artemi Franchi on their last three trips, and have defeated Viola 27 times across all competitions.
Now Rudi Garcia’s men can put their title challenge back on track with another victory on the road, and must win to stop Juventus steaming ahead any further.
Fiorentina, meanwhile, are 11/8 to set a cat amongst the pigeons and take all three points on home turf, where they have lost just three games this term.
For coach Vincenzo Montella, visits from the Giallorossi, with whom he spent seven and a half seasons as a player and enjoyed a short stint as interim boss back in 2011, hold special status.
The Viola boss will have his sights firmly fixed on downing his old club, however, to put pressure on fellow top three hopefuls Napoli, Sampdoria and Lazio.
Roma could certainly have more of an indirect say in Fiorentina’s future, however, if as rumoured they fork out a mooted fee of around £1.1m to take Chelsea winger Mohamed Salah on loan.
The Egypt international’s impending exit from Stamford Bridge could then open the door for Viola’s leading man Juan Cuadrado to join Jose Mourinho and co.
Montella addressed the speculation ahead of this key clash, stating: “I believe as of today there are no possibilities he will leave Fiorentina. He knows this, he knows that these situations get exaggerated.”
Fiorentina fans then, should be treated to the familiar sight of Cuadrado rampaging down the right flank as usual, so back the Colombia star to score anytime at 5/2, or 7/1 to strike first.
Frontman Mario Gomez bagged a brace last time out to help sink Atalanta, so is 8/1 to bag a brace or better again, and 2/1 in the anytime market.
Roma, meanwhile, will take confidence from their superior head-to-head record and try to shake off recent setbacks against Palermo and Lazio.
Evergreen attacker Francesco Totti is 6/1 to draw first blood, while fellow forward threat Mattia Destro is the same price to close the scoring. Argentina starlet Juan Iturbe has also been amongst the goals recently, and is 13/5 to provide a moment of magic again and net anytime.
