Spurs v Arsenal one of three Capital One Cup third round derbies

The north London derby between Tottenham (16/1 title chances with Coral) and Arsenal (12/1) at White Hart Lane highlights the Capital One Cup third round, while there is also another intriguing clash between Aston Villa (25/1) and bitter city rivals Birmingham (150/1).

There were a couple of shocks in the second round, meanwhile, as Preston North End edged out Premier League outfit Watford 1-0 and League Two club Carlisle United made the most of their long trip by beating QPR.

Simon Grayson’s Lilywhites (100/1 to win the cup) have been rewarded with a home tie against Bournemouth, while the Cumbrians (500/1) face a closer but more difficult journey this time to record League Cup winners Liverpool (7/1).

Another derby has been drawn too, as Crystal Palace (20/1) host fellow southeast London side Charlton Athletic (150/1), who both won their respective second round matches 4-1 against Shrewsbury Town and Peterborough United.

Manchester United (11/2 joint-favourites), chasing their first major trophy since 2013, begin their Capital One Cup campaign against Mick McCarthy’s Ipswich Town (150/1). The Red Devils will be hoping to avoid the 2-0 upset in this competition against the Tractor Boys they suffered in 1997.

Title holders Chelsea (also 11/2), meanwhile, have been given one of the more simple tasks this round as they face Walsall (300/1), although they’ll have to travel to the Saddlers’ Bescot Stadium.

There are a total of four all-Premier League ties, including Spurs v Arsenal, as Norwich City (33/1) host West Bromwich Albion (40/1), Leicester City (28/1) welcome West Ham United (40/1) and Manchester City (6/1) are on the road to Sunderland (66/1).

Other fixtures include Stoke City (25/1), who only managed to beat Luton Town on penalties, as they travel to Fulham (100/1), while Hull City (66/1) are at home to Swansea City (25/1) and Middlesbrough (40/1) entertain Wolverhampton Wanderers (80/1) in the only all-Championship encounter.

Finally, Southampton (20/1) will travel to MK Dons (150/1), and Reading (100/1) will welcome the winner of August 26th’s match between Barnsley (17/4 to triumph in the second round) and Everton (8/13 odds-on favourites).
