The best snaps from Saturday’s showpiece
In what was billed as one of the closest Champions League finals for years – matching the scoring power of Real Madrid with the defensive might of Juventus – the Spaniards ran out comfortable and convincing winners in the end.
Cristiano Ronaldo (who else) was sublime, scoring two goals to continue his devastating record against The Old Lady, and although the teams went into the break at 1-1, Blancos moved up a gear in the second 45 to win 4-1. That was the club’s 12th Champions League winners medal, second in-a-row, and third in the last four years. Incredible.
Coral have picked out some of our favourite pictures of the evening, which we believe tell the story of how things unfolded in Cardiff…..
The Black Eyed Peas entertain the crowd at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium in what proved to be a stunning support act for the night’s football. 65,842 fans packed into the arena to witness Real Madrid making history.
Cristiano Ronaldo celebrates with Sergio Ramos. CR7 went into the day with a superb scoring record against the Italians in recent meetings, and continued that with a double on Saturday night. A big game player.
Juan Cuadrado of Juventus sees red on 83 minutes for a second bookable offence. Despite appearing as a sub, he spent little time on the park, a clash with Sergio Ramos late in the day forced the referee’s hand.
Marco Asensio rounded off the evening with Real Madrid’s fourth and final goal, bulging the net on 90 minutes to put the icing on the cake. Having replaced Isco less than eight minutes earlier, he had an instant impact.
It’s official! Real Madrid continued their dominance of European football, celebrating a record 12th title and second in-a-row. A group of history makers, becoming the first team to retain the Champions League.
