What are Antoine Griezmann’s options this summer?

Could he be exiting Atletico?

Antoine Griezmann was the star man in Thursday’s Europa League Final, scoring two goals in Atletico Madrid’s 3-0 win over Marseille.

The 27-year-old will be key to France’s World Cup hopes too. He’s 12/1 to win the Golden Boot in Russia, second only to Lionel Messi.

A player of Griezmann’s talent will always attract attention and he’s been heavily linked with a move this summer.

After four years, over 208 games and 112 goals for Atletico, will he leave Madrid? His release clause reportedly drops down to €100m on July 1st, which is within reach for Europe’s biggest clubs. The Coral News Team have taken a look at his options.

Barcelona

The La Liga champions have been heavily linked with a move for Griezmann in recent months. A front trio of Griezmann, Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez would be a nightmare for opposition defenders.

But after spending big on Ousmane Dembele and Philippe Coutinho in the last year, Barca may need to sell some players to bring in the Frenchman.

Paris Saint-Germain

PSG have the funds to sign Griezmann and signing arguably the best French player around would be very tempting for them.

But would Griezmann want to play in Ligue 1? PSG are likely to stroll to the title for the foreseeable future. The Europa League Final was only the second club game he’s ever played in his homeland and he hasn’t shown much of an inclination to move back so far.

Manchester United

United were believed to be in the driving seat for his signature last summer, only for the forward to decide to stay at Atletico after they were given a transfer ban.

His ability to play out wide would be welcome at United. With Romelu Lukaku up front and Alexis Sanchez on the left, the right wing is still up for grabs at Old Trafford. United have the budget to bring him in and he’d certainly help them close the gap on Manchester City.

Stay at Atletico

Griezmann showed his loyalty to Atletico last year and he thanked Diego Simeone for helping him become, in his own words, “among the three best players in the world”.

Under Simeone, Atleti have reached two of the last four Champions League finals. And they’ll fancy getting their again next year, when it’s in their own stadium.

Griezmann may feel he can achieve his ambitions where he is. As long as Simeone is there, Atletico will be competitive.
