Wilshere amongst odds-on shots in England World Cup squad picks

Prices suggest Arsenal ace will make the plane

Gareth Southgate will name his England World Cup squad on Wednesday, and Coral’s trading team have been on top of the odds for who will and won’t make the cut.

Much debate has surrounded Jack Wilshere’s potential spot. And the latest odds suggest he’ll be amongst the final cut of 23, with 4/11 for the Arsenal man to make the squad.

Wilshere’s likely spot doesn’t bode well for other midfielders on the fringe of Gareth Southgate’s side. The latest Coral odds make it 6/4 for Jonjo Shelvey to get a place in the squad, whilst Jake Livermore is a 4/9 outsider.

Meanwhile, there seems a good chance that Southgate will take just the three strikers, with sizeable odds on the likes of Daniel Sturridge (10/1) and Andy Carroll (16/1) to make it to Russia.

Coral’s Harry Aitkenhead said: “Our odds suggest that Jack Wilshere will hold off the competition from Livermore and Shelvey to secure a spot in the squad, whilst it looks like Southgate will stick with just the three strikers and resist the temptation to add Welbeck, Walcott or even Ryan Sessegnnon.”
