Legalbeagle drawn to deliver in East Anglian Derby final
The final of the East Anglian Derby (21:08) is the highlight of a cracking Open race card at Yarmouth on Sky Sports 2 tonight and T6 Ajlo Legalbeagle looks decent value to land the spoils.
Paul Young’s dog has won two of his four starts at the venue and is two from three when sporting the striped jacket.
He was very impressive in the second round heat when pinging out and leading at the first to beat Clondotty Alex by 3 3/4 lengths and did well to finish third in the semis when keeping on gamely after getting badly crowded at the third bend.
With T1 Bubbly Gold likely to be moving out at the first there is a distinct possibility of crowding on the inside, as T2 Bockos Alfie has plenty of early pace along with T3 Clondotty Alex who will be cutting-in.
If beating T5 Ballymac Cathal to the punch that gives the selection every chance of capitalising to turn in front and establish a race winning advantage.
Here are the thoughts on the seven supporting races on Sky from Coral’s experts:
19:11 70th East Anglian Derby Standard – Div 2
T2 Harrow Wolf has a tremendous strike rate at the track and looks to hold excellent claims of further enhancing it.
Erica Samuels’ son of Makeshift has won eight of his 12 starts at the venue and is two from four in the grade. He also won six of his eights starts from the two box and has enough early pace to boss the inside and register a trap-to-line success.
19:26 70th East Anglian Derby Stayers
T6 Romany Rouge has some top class form to his name and rates a solid bet. Richard Devenish’s dog is 1-1 at the venue from the stripes and runs the track well.
With main market rival T1 Mustang Golden possibly unsuited by a sharp track and not comfortable in red, Romany Rouge looks ideally housed to turn handy before powering into the lead mid-race.
19:43 70th East Anglian Derby Gents Standard
T4 Calco Flyer is the market leader but has only won one of his 10 starts at the venue and looks worth taking on with T1 Adoras Sapient. John Mullins’ dog is two from five in the grade and is a real handful when trapping on terms.
He looks to have a plum draw on the inside of a middle runner and should get plenty of space to operate on the run to the first bend. If getting hitting the front early he is going to be hard to contain.
19:59 70th East Anglian Derby Marathon
T3 Ribble Atom has won her last two over eight bends and can prove too strong for favourite Droopys Cottage.
Mark Wallis’ bitch has some top class form in the book and comes into the contest in fine form having won two of her last three starts, including the TV marathon at Sheffield when last seen in action. She has early pace as well a powerful finish and looks drawn for action.
20:16 John Smiths Sprint Grand Final
A really trappy sprint in which T5 Mac Foiche looks a bit of value to turn over the red-hot jolly T1 Scolari Sound.
Richard Devenish’s’ dog is a formidable sort when timing it right at the lids and also packs a powerful finish. He looked an unlucky loser when badly crowded and beaten a neck in the heats and granted a clearer passage could prove tough to peg back if getting loose early doors.
20:33 70th East Anglian Derby Standard
T4 All About Shea is in terrific form at present and looks drawn to notch another success at the track. Keith Dawson’s dog has won nine of his 14 starts at the venue and has a superb strike rate when wearing the black jacket (nine win from 11 starts).
He destroyed the useful Old Joe Golden by five lengths over course and distnace when last seen in action, flying from the traps and powering clear. A similar performance is going to make him hard to beat.
20:51 70th East Anglian Derby Invitation
T1 Holdem Rio was just run out of a qualifying position when fourth in Bubbly Turbo’s semi-final of the East Anglian Derby and this looks a nice opportunity for him to gain some sort of compensation.
Heather Dimmock’s charge wasn’t ideally drawn that day in Trap 4 and the switch to the red jacket, from which he is 1-1 at the venue, can see him lead the inside and shoot clear for an all the way success.
