Romford best bets: Chips And Gravy on the menu again

David Metcalf | 9 November 2016

Chips And Gravy a tasty bet at Romford

T2 Chips And Gravy scored in terrific style last time out and rates a solid bet to follow-up in the S1 contest at 20:34 on tonight’s card at Romford screened live on Racing Post Greyhound TV (Sky 368, Freesat 250).

After being quickly away, Martin Wiley’s youngster got a bump at the first and crowded on more than one occasion before weaving his way to the front and getting up close home to score by 1/2 a length.

It was a superb effort given how the race panned out and it won Chips And Gravy the RPGTV Performance Of The Week award for proud owners Ann Bradshaw and her son Stephen.

The manner of the victory suggested that the son of Ace Hi Rumble was an exciting prospect and one which needed keeping firmly onside.

Chips And Gravy looks to have the potential to make up into a decent Open dog and he can take this en route to hopefully much better things.

Catunda Roma ready to rock

T1 Catunda Roma has been running well in defeat of late and can gain a served success in heat one of the A4 Owners Bonus Series (20:50).

Margaret Lucas’ bitch is a strong running sort who has just under a 31 per cent strike rate when sporting the red jacket.

She has not been helped by slow starts in her last two outings when finishing third on both occasions, but has shown good battling qualities to be closing at the finish.

However, the daughter of Taylors Sky is not devoid of early pace when timing it right at the lids and looks nicely housed on one inside of a habitual slow starter to hold her position to the bend before kicking in the turbo mid-race to land the spoils.

Vics Venus drawn for victory

In heat two of the A4 Owners Bonus Series (21:06), T1 Vics Venus looks decent value to cash-in what looks a peach of a draw.

Martin Wiley’s son of Ballymac Vic has won seven of his 31 starts at the venue and has a near 25 per cent strike rate from the one box.

He is blessed with plenty of early pace as well as being strong at the business end of affairs and comes into the race in good form having scored over course and distance seven days ago.

Vics Venus also rates a good runner in our Romford best bets.

If getting away in his best fashion Vics Venus should have little trouble bossing the inside, and if doing so and turning in front is going to be extremely difficult to peg back.

Lipstick can kiss rivals goodbye

T4 Lipstick has been in fine form in recent weeks and looks the answer to heat three of the A4 Owners Bonus Series (21:24).

Phil Simmonds’ bitch has won four of her last seven starts at the venue and two of those victories have come over the 480m trip of this contest.

She is also a useful six-bend performer and has the perfect combination of early pace and staying power.

Granted a slick exit Lipstick could well turn in front in this line-up, but even if holding her pitch at the first bend and turning handy she should have too many guns for her rivals come the business end of proceedings.
