Romford best bets: Rambo can prove too strong for Puppy Cup rivals

David Metcalf | September 16, 2016

Toolmaker Rambo looks tasty in Puppy Cup heats

T2 Toolmaker Rambo was not seen to best effect last time out but is strongly fancied to bounce back and land the sixth heat of the Romford Puppy Cup (21:24) on tonight’s 13-race card at the Essex venue screened live on Racing Post Greyhound TV (Sky 468, Freesat 250).

Paul Young’s pup got no sort of run whatsoever when slowly away and badly baulked before finishing a well beaten fifth to Droopys Schnozz.

Prior to that he had shown a potent turn of foot to produce a lightning 3.66 sectional and flash from the lids to make all to slam Makeit Boomtime by three lengths on debut over course and distance.

It was a most taking performance which suggested the son of Aero Majestic had a huge future and he has comes into the race on the back of an impressive trial which suggests all is well following his rough ride two weeks ago.

If getting away in his best style, Rambo can boss the inside and gain his revenge on Droopys Schnozz.

Rio Rialto ready to rock

T6 Rio Riolta has run well to finish runner-up in his last two starts and can go one better to gain a deserved success in the Romford Friday Night 500 Standard Final (21:40).

In the first of those Danny Reordan’s dog was slowly away, allowing eventual winner T1 Toot Hill Wizard to get first run before throwing down a strong late challenge to be beaten just 3/4 of a length.

It was a cracking effort given how the race panned out and he backed it up with a fine 3/4 length second to the same rival seven days ago.

With the possibility of crowding on his inside, a quick break can see Rio Rialto turn in front and open up to register a third victory at the track.

San Marino can prevail in Stayers Final

In the Romford Friday Night 500 Stayers Final (21:56), T3 Rio San Marino looks drawn to get back to winning ways and provide Riordan with a big race double.

The son of Droops Scolari has won two of his seven starts at the venue and both those successes have come when sporting the white jacket.

Rio San Marino is a really tough sort to pass when getting on the bunny and has enough pace to clear the duo on his inside and do just that.

Although beaten 2 1/2 lengths when runner-up to T5 Mays Fiddlefadle in last weeks semis, he got badly checked on more than one occasion and is fancied to turn around the form with that rival who got a flyer from the traps but may struggle to do so gain with the pacey Sportsmans Jojo on his outside.

Millwards can prove the Master in finale

Millwards Master has an excellent record at the track and can further enhance it with victory in the Coral Home Of The Price Bomb Stayers which brings proceedings to a close (22:40).

Paul Young’s 2016 Coronation Cup star has won 10 of his 37 starts at the venue and is a really classy sort when getting a clear passage.

He got no run whatsoever when sixth to Sportsmans Jonjo last week but had previously shown what he is capable of when staying on powerfully to beat Cooly Caviar by 2 3/4 lengths.

The runner-up has come out and won since at Wimbledon to give the form a boost and Millwards Master’s best recent time of 35.36 is head and shoulders above what any of his rivals have achieved.

Romford best bets

21:24 T2 Toolmaker Rambo
21:40 T6 Rio Rialto
21:56 T3 Rion San Marino
