Bellewstown Preview – Dom Lukka will relish the ground

In the 6.50 at Bellewstown, a chance is taken on Dom Lukka bouncing back to form for Elizabeth Doyle.

A name you may be familiar with, Dom Lukka has spent much of his career in the UK with Charlie Longsdon having won a couple of races across both codes. He was sold to Elizabeth Doyle last summer and has since finished well held off marks of 101 and 102. He’s not performed as well as his new connections may have hoped but it’s argued that he has probably wanted softer conditions. He won on really soft ground over 3m 2f at Huntingdon in 2014 and on good to soft ground over 3m at Fontwell. Today’s trip is three miles long and the ground is officially described as soft, heavy in places which looks to suit his chances.

He is only 1lb higher than his last winning mark and with a 7lb claimer to aid his chances, he looks to have an excellent chance of securing victory today. New Kid In Town looks a dangerous opponent to Dom Lukka however his two wins to date have come on good to firm and good ground. This is only his second start over three miles and I would question how well he will handle this softer ground.

Dom Lukka has the right trip, right ground and a workable mark all in his favour today and should he return to his form early last year, he could easily out-run his double figure price.

In the 5.20, Black Label can notch up a quick double having won his second race in twenty-one starts last time out. The handicapper has raised him 8lbs which looks fair given the dominance he displayed on his last start.

He had a mark of 74 on the flat when he raced in the UK and he’s made a good transition to the McGuinness yard in Ireland. He really relished the soft conditions on his last start and with even deeper ground on offer today, he may be able to perform even better.

His efforts over hurdles are developing with every run and given he’s still unexposed over obstacles, he should come on even more for his last victory. He sneaks into this race just 1lb lower than the highest allowed mark and he could dominate this race today.
