Bet of the day: Sunday’s racing

Frank Monkhouse | 9 July 2017

There’s a winning feeling in the Ayr

It’s a quieter than usual Sunday service for followers of the UK and Irish horse racing scene, with meetings taking place at Ayr, Market Rasen and Limerick. Not the drama of Saturday, but there’s plenty of winners to be found, and we aim to push a few your way.

Sticking with a decent card in Scotland, Coral’s racing team give a selection in each of the eight legs, designed to lend a helping hand when piecing together your multiples, such as Lucky 15s and accumulators. Those who prefer to concentrate on one main play can follow our NAP, outlined below. Click here to place your bets.

Town Charter made an impressive start

The day gets started at 1.40pm with a maiden stakes contested over 1m 2f. Pouvoir Magique is picked out to get us off on the right foot, but we keep our powder dry until the 4.20pm, a one mile handicap. Of the six runners expected to contest, Town Charter carries our hopes. Jockey James Doyle rides for Mark Johnson on his progressive colt.

The selection enjoyed an impressive start to his career, a win around Ayr sandwiched between runner-up finishes at Carlisle and Haydock. There hasn’t been too much in the results to get excited about this year however, a place at Newmarket over 7f last month probably the standout.

NAP is in good hands with Doyle

Three-year-old colt Town Charter has been kept sharp, and was last seen on the opening day of July at Chester when finishing four of nine at a big price. Granted, he didn’t offer too much to get us excited when last competing over a mile, but we are confident he’s the type to get better with experience.

He seems to have been given a real chance by the handicapper to go and win this race, and should take full advantage. It’s also worth keeping in mind that our play is one from one at Ayr, and has been placed in very capable hands on Sunday. Followers of the stats will take confidence from Doyle’s form on favourites.
