Red Riverman rolling back the years
We get started at 2.10pm with a novices’ hurdle, but in terms of our big play, we’re little more than spectators until the 3.10pm. A handicap chase, disputed over two miles, a tight five-runner field has been marked down in the programme, and we’re hoping they all go to ensure we get the best out of this one.
Of the pack, Red Riverman is the one to be on. Nigel Twiston-Davies has Jamie Bargary in the saddle of his vastly experienced nine-year-old, and the pick arrives boasting a fair share of recent form. The gelding won last time out at Uttoxeter over a shorter trip, and was impressive in doing so. Going off as race favourite, he battered the field into submission, coming home a full six lengths in front of runner-up Solar Impulse.
Don’t call it a comeback
That win would’ve come as little surprise to punters who had been keeping a close eye on Red Riverman, as he finished runner-up in his two previous starts, and seems to be in a fine mood. He has not been back racing long, but what we’ve seen from him since that return is difficult to ignore.
The selection still has plenty of the old ability when given a chance by the handicapper, and we make him more than capable of scoring on Sunday. Definite Future should lay down a challenge, but we’re on the right one here.
