Bet of the day: Tuesday’s Racing

Frank Monkhouse | 7 February 2017

Hanagan called in to do a job

We turn the spotlight towards Newcastle on Tuesday’s racing schedule in the latest leg of our quest for winners. Seven races get underway from 1.30pm, and we offer our NAP and next best, as well as an interest in every race, to help out with your multiple bets.

Standing out as the main pick of the day, Energia Fox goes in the third on the schedule, a one-mile two furlong fillies handicap due at 2.30pm. Trainer Richard Fahey and jockey Paul Hanagan join forces on our selection, who arrives at track looking to get her head in front for the first time in a 22 starts.

Hardly inspiring stuff to read as a punter, but the seven-year-old has been mixing it in much better company than she faces here, and the lessons learned there, along with the drop in grade, should pay-off come the final result.

It remains to be seen whether she will take to the surface today, but connections obviously feel that the time is right for her to get winning and have brought in Hanagan to give her the best chance possible. She must be respected at what’s sure to be a decent price.

Camakasi odds also feature in our Newcastle tips.

Deep Dream worth another go

Later in the day and my next best of the afternoon’s racing goes in the penultimate test on the card, the six-furlong maiden fillies’ stakes. Another risky encounter, but I expect Deep Dream to make a bold statement and lead them home.

Andrew Balding relaunches his four-year-old, who has not been seen since a debut spin around Kempton almost exactly a year ago. That may go as a bit of a red flag for punters, but I am of the opinion that connections have a good thing on their hands and are waiting to get her exactly right.

A product of some very impressive breeding, she was well-supported in the market last year, which is an obvious plus, and deserves the benefit of the doubt today. They obviously see enough in her at home to build this one up and go again, and I am willing to trust their thinking.
