Champions Club Seeking Double Delight

Sky Sports and the NFL coined the phrase ‘Super Sunday’ to promote their respective big day offerings so it’s entirely appropriate that the Coral Champions Club borrows the term to describe this Sunday’s momentous occasion when both of their charges, Bon Chic and Template, will be in action. This is the first time in the club’s three year history that they will have two runners on the same day at different venues.

Thoughts of the club obtaining its first double are not beyond the realms of possibility. Bon Chic is undoubtedly their best chance of a winner as she bids to follow up her recent Southwell success. The handicapper allotted her a rating of 120 after her maiden hurdle win and there is a feeling he may have somewhat underestimated that performance. She runs in the 0-120 handicap hurdle at Stratford and her trainer, Dan Skelton, is hopeful of a big run.

“She’s in great form. She’s fit and well and again she’s running on ground that she loves. She’s different class on quick ground and that’s the key to her. There are a couple of okay horses in the race but I think she’ll go very close.”

Dan’s brother Harry Skelton who notched his 50th winner of the season at Cheltenham on Thursday will once again be doing the steering.

The club’s other runner on Sunday is in the 2:10 at Wincanton when Template attempts to get back on track after a very disappointing run on his last start at Chepstow. The dissatisfaction was fuelled as he has shown immense promise on his hurdling debut when finishing a close up third to two more experienced rivals. However a return to a right handed flat track is expected to bring about a big improvement and the ground could also play to his strengths. Noel Fehily, who rode the horse at Taunton is back on board on Sunday. Trainer Harry Fry is optimistic and feels he’ll run a nice race.

“He’s in good order. Some of mine were under a cloud when he disappointed at Chepstow but he was never sick and we’re putting it down to the ground that day and possibility the track didn’t suit him. I’m very happy with him and the quicker ground could be in his favour as his best run last summer was on top of the ground”.

The club will be represented at both meetings by 10 lucky members and who were drawn out to experience the thrill of racecourse ownership. They and a guest each won VIP Owner experience where they will be dined and wined by the club before meeting the club’s trainers for a briefing before the race. The club also offers many brilliant benefits including a weekly email with updates from club trainers, exclusive interviews, previews, top tips, free bet competitions and there’s even ‘member only’ price enhancements thrown in for good measure!

A day of double delight would indeed make it a ‘Super Sunday’ for members of the Coral Champions Club!
