Chelmsford preview: Money Team can cash-in on falling mark
David Metcalf | December 17, 2015
Money Team can take advantage of a drop in the weights to gain an overdue success in the 6f handicap on this evening’s card at Chelmsford (17.40).
The David Barron trained gelding was in good form in the summer of 2014, scoring at Beverley off a mark of 73 and following up in good style at Redcar when beating the useful Online Alexander by a length off 80.
Money Team went on to run several solid races to be placed, including off a rating as high as 88, and is now able to run off just 73.
That gives the four-year-old major claims from a handicapping perspective, and the son of Kodiac comes into the contest on the back of any eye-catching fifth of 11 to Star Fire at Lingfield following a break.
Money Team showed plenty of pace to race prominently, but lost vital ground when carried wide rounding the home turn before keeping on to be beaten just over two lengths with being unduly knocked about.
It was a promising effort, and with that run under his belt Money Team should now be spot on to do himself justice.
Schottische great shout for 1m handicap
In the 1m handicap (18.40), Schottische looks decent value to land the spoils.
Trained by Alan Bailey, the mare was last successful at Southwell back in January when battling on to beat Poppy Bond by 3/4 of a length off a mark of 57.
The five-year-old is now able to race off 2lb lower, and shaped better than the bare result suggests last time out when a five length fourth of 13 to Roger Thorpe in an amateur riders’ handicap at Southwell.
Schottische received little assistance from the saddle in the early stages and quickly found herself in an awful position at the rear of the field, but then stayed on nicely up the home straight to be nearest at the finish.
It was an eye-catching run given that the daughter of Pastoral Pursuits usually races more prominently on the heels of the leaders, and one which suggests Schottische is a big player in this now that she gets the professional services of Graham Gibbons in the saddle.
