Cheltenham preview (13.15): Take Un Temps Pour Tout on chase debut
David Metcalf | November 13, 2015
Top class hurdler Un Temps Pour Tout can make a winning debut over the larger obstacles and provide trainer David Pipe with back-to-back success in the 3m MallardJewellers.com Novices Chase at Cheltenham (13.15).
Pipe sent out Kings Palace to land the contest in terrific style 12 months ago, and in Un Temps Pour Tout has a gelding that has the potential to be something special.
After joining Pipe for a whopping £450k after showing smart form in France, Un Temps Pour Tout came good at the second time of asking for the Pond House handler when slamming Cole Harden by 16 lengths in a novice hurdle at Ascot back in February 2014.
The six-year-old went on to finish a cracking sixth of 16 to that rival in this year’s running of the World Hurdle here at the Festival, and backed that up with a solid third in a Grade 1 contest at Aintree.
Un Temps Pour Tout was then given a break before posting a career-best performance to land the Grade 1 French Champion Hurdle at Auteuil when last seen in action.
The son of Robin Des Champs made all to slam Thousand Stars by 10 lengths, and it was a performance which earned Un Temps Pour Tout an official rating of 163.
That puts him head and shoulders above his rivals, and granted a clear round Un Temps Pour Tout can take this with the minimum of fuss en route to much better things.
Twelve Roses to flourish if Un Temps Pour Tout flops
If Un Temps Pour Tout fails to live up to expectations, then Twelve Roses looks the one most likely to take advantage.
The Kim Bailey trained gelding finished a cracking 9 3/4 length fifth of 15 to Faugheen in the 2013 running of the Neptune Novices’ Hurdle, and overcame a lengthy 581 day absence to make a winning debut over fences at Wetherby last month.
Twelve Roses held on gamely to beat the well-regarded Southfield Royal by 1/2 a length, and it was a most taking performance which showed that the ability shown in the Neptune remained.
The form of the race also looks strong, and providing this doesn’t come too quick Twelve Roses looks sure to make his present felt.
