“Thanks a million Sprinter Sacre”, Coral punters win £1m with our offer
The bookmaker had offered a stand-out even money since last Thursday about the horse as part of its biggest ever promotional campaign, and the thousands of customers who took advantage of the offer were able to celebrate after the horse sauntered to victory at odds of 1-4.
“The Cheltenham Festival is the biggest week of the year as far as betting concerned, and our offer of even money about the hottest favourite at the meeting since the mighty Arkle in the 1960s proved too good to ignore for tens of thousands of our customers, and they never had a moment’s worry,” said Coral’s David Stevens.
“Unsurprisingly the offer proved a huge hit, with many people comparing it to finding money in the street, and when we began the offer last Thursday, we said we were willing to lay it lose a million, which we duly did. To be honest we never looked like keeping the money, as the horse ran out one of the easiest winners ever seen at the Festival, but at least we have two days to try to win some it back,” added Stevens.
“Sprinter Sacre, trained by Nicky Henderson and ridden by Barry Geraghty, is already 1-2 favourite to win next year’s Champion Chase, but it will be a few months before anyone at Coral HQ suggests going even money once more!” concluded Stevens.
