2016 Cheltenham Festival ante post plays: World can Rule in Hunt

David Metcalf | February 1, 2016

Rule The World looks decent each-way value at 12/1 with Coral in the ante post betting for the 4m National Hunt Chase at the Cheltenham Festival on Tuesday, March 15th.

Trained in Ireland by the shrewd Mouse Morris, the gelding had some top class form to his name over hurdles and was rated 152 at his peak.

The nine-year-old ran a blinder when runner-up to The New One in the 2013 running of the Neptune Investment Management Novices’ Hurdle at The Festival, and was also far from disgraced 12 months later when sixth of 10 to More Of That in the World Hurdle.

Rule The World on path to greatness

Although Rule The World has yet to score in 12 runs over fences, he has posted some really solid efforts and finished runner-up on seven occasions.

They include an excellent second to the now 155-rated Wounded Warrior in Grade 2 at Naas, and a cracking second of 28 to Thunder And Roses in last year’s Irish Grand National.

Rule The World was also travelling as well as any at the head of affairs when slipping up between the final two fences in the valuable Galway Plate, and has shaped as if as good as ever in three runs this season.

After chasing home The Game Changer on reappearance at Tipperary, the son of Sulamani finished a solid nine length runner-up to crack 158-rated novice and leading RSA hope No More Heroes in a Grade 1 at Leopardstown.

National Hunt Chase suits Rule The World

Rule The World was also far from disgraced last time out when fifth of 18 in the ultra-competitive Thyestes Chase at Gowran Park, and has always struck me as the ideal type for the National Hunt Chase.

It think he will relish the stamina test which is confined to amateur riders, and given connections Rule The World is likely to get a top pilot.

He is owned by the Gigginstown House Stud, and their colours have been carried to plenty of success by crack amateur Nina Carberry.

Carberry is worth her weight in gold in such races as the National Hunt Chase, and looks the ideal partner for Rule The World.

Whether she will be in the saddle next month remains to be seen, but if she is then Rule The World looks sure to go off at single figures.

Another plus is that Rule The World acts on all types of going, and his chasing experience and class give him the ideal profile for the National Hunt Chase.
